Wife came back upstairs before heading out to work to tell me about this. First thing I thought was "doesn't sketch live there?" And I think 40 people, while sad in its own right, is a smaller toll than it could have been, as we on this side of the atlantic can attest to. 1 is too many, but 40 is better than 3,000.

Glad to hear you're alright sketchy.

Yeah, when I woke up and heard there was a buncha bombs going off but no numbers yet, I feared the death toll would definitely be in the hundreds if not thousands

i wouldn't really classify this as "avoiding" a different viewpoint as i would herding it into a cage that's completely removed from anywhere significant. That's saying "yeah, you can say whatever you want. in this cave a mile below the earth's surface". While it might not violate the wording of the first amendment, it certainly isn't what they had in mind when it was written.

come to think of it, what about the fifth amendment? There are citizens of this country who are right now being held without any indication of a charge. Sure, they were sent to Cuba for it to take place, but does that make it any less illegal?

Well this is bullshit. I'm with you on that. Same with picking up these yahoos and shipping them to Jordan and Egypt so that a third party can get their whacks (and shocks) in. Total bullshit.

But you don't have a right to be heard. And while it may seem unjust, you have every right to break the rules and pay the consequences. People have lost all sight of civil disobedience through their own selfishness and unwillingness to sacrifice. Just because you can make a sign or a t-shirt that shows your witty retort to administration policy doesn't mean that everyone else must admire it.

We were in London last year at my cousins house when the Madrid bombings happened. The same cousin and his gf are in London today. These two were in the Maldives when the Xmas Tsunami swept through and managed to sleep through it.

I can't reach him or his gf. fuck fuck fuck. I hope they were too hungover to go to work this morning.

I hate this powerless, not-knowing time. I must go smoke now.

Just heard that al-Queda (whoever that is) is claiming responsibility, calling it a "blessed" attack.

:rockbanana: Yay! We're gonna have to fight these bastards for-ever!

Late response- but I've been slow this morning. Didn't hear about this til the boss came in and started talking about it... tragic news. :/

Glad to hear you're safe Sketch.

so latest report was 37 dead and 700+ injured.

Not to belittle the injuries, but that 700+ number includes anyone who scraped their hand or bruised their thigh, right? So serious injuries are probably far less?

I’m not saying that at all. But to be denied presence in what is claimed to be an open even is ludicrous. Even moreso when it’s entirely because you have a “no blood for oil” bumper sticker on a car you borrowed to get to said event. I understand where you’re coming from, and agree that people often confuse the right to free speech with the right to be heard, but there are cases where these are both crossed.
