He's the new (tied for) #1-rated guy at metacritic.com -- http://www.tinymixtapes.com/musicreview ... lidell.htm , blending old soul & r&b with idm. i haven't heard it, just wondering if anyone else has and what their take on the album is. Looks interesting.

funny, i was just reading an article on him last night in xlr8r. they had one of his tracks on the sampler, it's very... different. i don't know how else to describe it. just think some dude singing soul over glitchy beats/funk/idm. it kinda grew on me after putting the track on repeat a couple of times. definitely a very innovative concept in the whole electronica aspect- not just some dude geeking out on a laptop.

supposedly his live show is AMAZING. and from what reviews on his "multiply" album are- it isn't as good as his live show but still worth checking out.

i'll ysi that track tomorrow, i was going to bring the sampler to upload to my i-pod today but i forgot.

I started a thread on this a few weeks ago but I cant be bothered searching for it.

It's reasonably good, a little cheesy at times.

I almost started a thread on this.

If it works, it's right up my alley.

I saw him open up for 606 a few years back and it was abrasive and wild. I liked it lots and would like to hear this newness if someone's willing to set me up. Let me know.

I was trying to upload it to YSI but it went like 45 minutes without doing anything so I quit...sorry.

Good review Whiney.

This album will probably be received much like M.I.A.'s. Some will hate, some will love.

You have got to give the man props for his voice though. And his guts.

It takes time, shiv. Try again. I'll compensate somehow.

This is good. I got mp3s of it from a friend a few days ago.

I'm only about half-way through my first listen, but I think I may go out and buy this over the weekend. It kinda makes me feel like I shouldn't be so lazy about checking out old soul albums, though.

edit: "Newme" is fucking awesome

If someone can hook a sistah up, I will love you longtime.

I really hope he plays in LA soon, I want to check his live show out.

Thanks!

On first listen, I like this album a lot... the concept is something completely different and fresh.

i've heard of Jamie Bell. That kid was dynamite in Billy Elliot. And also quite good in Nicholas Nickleby.
