My vote:
Image Comets on Fire - Blue Cathedral

I may add Wolf Eyes to the list later after a few more listens. The pure passion for making unenjoyable music is keeping me with these guys for the time being.

With this post, I'm out for the rest of the weekend. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Arcade Fire is fine, but holy christ. I expected to hear the end all be all of musical achievement.

fiery furnaces - blueberry boat

I tried... I honest to God tried to understand, and appreciate. It just didn't gel with me.

AC Newman: 'The Slow Wonder'. Some catchy stuff but really pretty boring overall.

I so wanted to love this record... but it was the biggest waste of $14.99 ever.

Sixtoo

Just a complete letdown... was expecting so much more.

I think most "ratings" on the new Modest Mouse have been pretty neutral, at least in terms of reviews. Sales, I guess, are another thing, but I wouldn't consider their new one "overrated". The Moon and Antarctica, on the other hand...

So far, I'd just say Franz Ferdinand, Loretta Lynn, Air, and maybe the Walkmen. That Comets on Fire record has gotten a little old, but I still want to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Also, I'm sick of people calling Wolf Eyes unenjoyable.

And finally, I don't know why I'm posting in this thread because I think talking about what's "overrated" is kind of silly.

Dana, you on the other hand are a genius. Must be a PTC thing.

I'm tempted to say The Black Keys Rubber Factory because of all the sky-high gushing, because it's really just a good dirty blues record. But then I remember there aren't many good dirty blues records around lately. Plus I think contemptous dismissal of decent records simply because some people praise them to be myopic and eye-rollingly retarded.

Uber-indie cynicism is a ridiculous thing. Not the dislike of albums itself, but all the accompanying sneering and disdain for those who like the dismissed albums. Short-sighted and goofy as hell.

Not if you just dislike it. Or think it's dull or something. That's fine.

It's when you're incredulous that I (or someone else) could like it and think there's something stupid about me for liking it and think that anyone who would like it is a retard and go out of your way to sneer and mock that I'd get irritated.

The idea that one is somehow more enlightened because they prefer one sort of sound over another is really foolish. And the disdain that some people show for other's tastes often only points out how limited they themselves are. And how wrapped up they are in their subjective view of superior culture.

You know who you are.

Heh.

Well yeah I just found it dull the first two times I listened to them. Maybe it will grow.

Sorry. That little rant comes out of me in threads like this in slightly different form two or three times a year. Nothing personal. I just think people who derive pleasure out of sneering at other people's tastes are a bit pathetic.

*Refers you to the Pitchfork taking over the world thread*

Although I'm very guilty of looking down on people because of their music taste.

Then again, I like a good deal of stuff generally considered as "shit" by people like us.

But yeah, music preference, just like most things is entirely subjective...but it's fun to discuss and argue over things.

I love the arguing and discussing, I don't love the "you must be a fucking lobotomized faggot for thinking this band doesn't suck ass" attitudes.
