Sure it is, Tommy.

I was at the first Gold Medal game in Seoul, watching Jim Abbott beat the world with one hand. Pretty qual.

(the 1984 Games, baseball was still an "exhibition")

Blah blah blah, steroids, blah blah blah, doping, blah blah blah.

How come there's still figure skating when the judges are crooked?

i'm not bitching about steroids (i don't even like baseball), but when the mental image of a dude you've had since 7 changes to the extent that he looks like he's been photoshopped, you tend to remember it.

My comments weren't directed at anyone here. The sports lines are quoting the IOC as attributing the decision to the steroid scandal. Yet they keep track & field? They're always disqualifying folks for doping.

I followed you from the beginning. If they were dropping sports based on steroids in the Olympics, it would just be the Redneck Olympics. It might be fun to watch some overgrown Chinamen chase a greased pig, or some 93lb. Latvian girl attempt a bellyflop into a mudhole.

Western World dropped the Olympics after the Cold war ended. It's just not the same.

World Cup of Baseball will be a much better tourny anyways, just like the World Cup of every other sport is a better version of what the Olympics do.

Golf would be cool.

As far as the olympics go:
Individual sports > team sports,
quantifiable scores > judged performances

Speaking of baseball around the world, who knew that there was such a thing as the International Federation of Baseball?

The Olympics have been a sham since the 72 games.
First you have an American Basketball team that gets completely screwed by refs, so that once again they don't win the gold medal in the sport that was created in America.
Then you have Carter refusing to send the US team to Moscow and the Soviets refusing to come to LA.
In 1988, You have Roy Jones arguably one of the best boxers ever jobbed by Korean Officials who were bribed. I believe he was voted most outstanding Boxer at the games despite being a Silver medalists.
In 1994, You have the infamous Harding/Kerrigan fiasco. Michelle Kwan who is arguably as good as both of them and ends up having a much better career is forced to become an alternate due to the crowbar to the knee.
In 2002, You have a French Judge bribed to go against a Canadian Ice Dancing couple in favor of a Russian pair. It's freaking ice dancing, it can't bring that much glory to your country.

Dropping Baseball and Softball seems asanine, but I'd rather see the American team send a MLB allstar team over like the NBA Dream team until the last olympics. The only good thing about the games is watching the US continually dominate the games due to extreme wealth and high levels of training and seeing our cockiest athletes get brought down a notch when some cinderella from the lesser countries win the gold in a sport like basketball.

It's even funnier to see uncocky Tim Duncan fiicl i[ while supposed GHETTO ASS NIGGA STREET BALL PLAYA Allen Iverson was sposed to falter but instead being the only bright light on the team.
