Chris, make sure you click on your screen first before you press ALT+PRT SCRN together. That might be the problem.

guess I'm the only one who doesn't have any shortcuts on the desktop...the picture I posted is literally what my desktop looks like, even though it's not a screenshot

oh, and thx DHR, I'm pretty happy with the way that picture turned too

I know it looks ridiculous, but I prefer keeping the desktop free of shortcuts and having one-click access to the programs I use most often. And yes, I use ALL of those programs. This is my personal laptop, but I use it at work, also. Plus, I discovered that by expanding the taskbar to two levels, it gives me the time and day and date. BONUS!
