No doubt about that.

But yeah, how has this year been so bad for music? I can't keep up with the great releases. In fact, this has been one of the best years for music for me - mostly from "new to me" artists, but I will admit that many of my established favorites have issued disappointing albums. But that's okay - what's been good has far outweighed what's been bad by a long shot.

I agree with Mot's comments.

Some of my favourite releases this year are relatively local ones like Esmerine and Harris Newman. One of the most disappointing releases of the year has been Low's, who I'd otherwise consider one of my all time favourite bands. I think overall it has been a really good year, but the highlights of it haven't been as obvious.

I'd like to endeavour to compile a half-year list, but I know I'd forget most of the stuff I've really liked somehow.

Funny enough, The Great Destroyer is one of my favorites!

I'm pretty happy with my Top-10 up to this point, but at the same time, I hope the second half of the year will give us some excellent albums to look forward to.

1. Common - Be
2. M.I.A. - Arular
3. Markus Guentner - 1981
4. Platinum Pied Pipers - Triple P
5. Coldplay - X&Y
6. MED - Push Comes to Shove
7. The Game - The Documentary
8. 13 & God
9. Billy Corgan - The Future Embrace
10. 50 Cent - The Massacre

My favourite albums of the year so far are yet to be released, or just came out. I think if we re-evaluate this year in 6 months we'll find it was pretty good for music.

everything that i was looking forward to has been a disappointment, except ed harcourt's strangers. luckily, i've found a few albums that were off my radar and have been delightful surprises.

I've heard a lot of good stuff, nothing great. I'm sure the great stuff will surface later on.

The albums I've been looking forward to have disappointed to a greater or lesser degree but I've heard some great new music.

Forget 2005, Edgar 'Jones' Jones 'Music For Stray Cats' is one of my favourite releases of the decade.

Hmm. An "it's been a shitty year for music" thread. Is it that time of year already?

I think it's been a decent year, i'm just advising Borg to lay off the sauce.

I only listed the ones that I own and think are awesome. There are plenty of other great ones out there if you've got your ears open. It's also only half-way through the year, many releases are scheduled for October.

I think it's been all right for music. How many great releases should there have been by the halfway point? What metric are we using here?

I'd second the sentiment that movies have been pretty terrible though. I think I've only seen Sin City this year.

I think it's a good year for new bands. Most of the stuff I've heard from established artists has been kind of crummy.

This Jamie Lidell recommendation is pretty top-notch. Just when I was looking to get into the Motown sound someone recommends this. Perfect timing.

What's this like, polly six? Is it like Shine, which did almost nothing for me, or Wynona, which I think is stunning?
