You can see that I'm a casual Rolling Stones fan who owns and enjoys Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed, but I don't know if I really have a desire to listen to their other albums all the way through. I know that Forty Licks has been out for a while and that it lacks quite a few fan-favorites, but in the end, it seems to have been designed for someone like me.

Would any Rolling Stones fans recommend this compilation?

It was something I never would have bought for myself.
The albums are just so essential.

That said, I got it for a Christmas gift from my boss one year and.... DAMN!!!

It's a fucking amazing collection. The songs remind you why they are called the "Best Rock n' Roll Band In the World" and the sound is impeccable – I heard old familiar favorites in a whole new light thanks to the great remaster job.

Get.
It.
NOW.

Yeah, if you're a casual fan and want to remain only a casual fan, it's got all the Big songs with just a few ommisions, but you can say that about virtually any comp.

It also contains 4 newer songs, 2 of which are fucking awesome, the other 2 just OK.

I don't own this one, but I do have the Forty Flicks DVD which is beyond qual, even if just for the Solomon Birke footage and "Ronnie Cam"

DAMN! Loog beat me to it.

Forty licks is a great comp and better than Hot Rocks IMO just because it has more and goes a little deeper.

BUT, don't deprive yourself of the joys and deeper cuts of Exile on Main St and Beggar's Banquet.

If you can't decide on something to play at a party, Forty Licks is always a solid choice simply because there are no bad songs on it.

"Don't Stop" is a pretty good song

Its a pretty good comp IMHO even though I never had any reason to buy it.

I ended up buying Forty Licks earlier this week and think it's one of the best purchases I made this year. This gives me a much better perspective and appreciation for the band.
