When adding from the drop down list, can you make the entrys alphabetical. They're sorted by date added right now I think.

Seconded.

Thirded and done. I'll have sorting and longer pages done tonight.

You're doing a great job on this, btw.

Is there any way that, once you've rated an album on, say, page 3, you could automatically return to page 3 to continue?

ANOTHER suggestion:

It would be really cool to have a wiki-like place to enter a short description of each album. People could add or edit as they see fit.

Yeah that'll go in tonight too.

Max: I thought about descriptions, and I even thought about a Wiki, but I don't really know how to associate the wiki page with the database entry. Just make the description editable by anyone in the db? Think people would be respectful enough not to abuse each other with that?

Yea, it wouldn't be to hard to set up - just like you say.

About people being respectful - who knows? It'd be fun to see what happens regardless. Most of us understand that in order to argue a point both sides need to be expressed.

Can I just say something here?

If you award an album 10 out of 10 you are giving it the highest possible mark and therefore saying "this is the best album possible and it cannot be bettered by any other release - past, present or future".

I've got to admit - I've been rating my new albums higher than I'd otherwise do, so they jump to the top of the list. Then, once they get a few votes I adjust my rating down to reality. 8)

I should just allow the ratings to go to 9.9 on the theory that 10 is an unattainable platonic form.

Yeh, I had no idea there were so many absolutely perfect albums being made. We really must live in a remarkable era.

Right now everybody is listing their favorite albums, so of course there are a lot of 10s being posted. Most of them only have one vote though, and once we all add our votes they'll move downward.

Except Husker Du, apparently.

No, that's what you are saying when you award a 10. I'm sure that album will be very flattered. With a integer rating system, awarding a 10 to the top 10% of known albums could be just as valid.

Yeah, no shit. I can think of several albums off the tope of my head I would award 10s. I can see that this charts thing is going to take over the board for a while. Not really my cup of tea, but I'll peruse it.

i give 10's to my favorite albums of all time - there are probably 50-60 or so 10s in my book.

Well, everybody obviously has their own standards. Some people may think a 7 is low, but if I give an album a 7 it means I like it a bunch.

How can 7 be low when it's 2 above average? I want someone to explain to me how 7 out of 10 is low.

I have favorite albums that I never tire of, they're going to get 10's. If you don't like them as much, rate them lower. Ones I like less are going to get less than 10's. It's not that complicated.

I totally agree with you, but I guarantee you that people who are posting albums as 10's are mumbling when they see my 6-7.

edit:I don't see myself giving anything a 10.

It's not. If a person only rates records that they're esctatic about, though, seven will seem relatively low in comparison to the hordes of eights and nines. I think this is what Steve's getting at. (edit: or not after reading his post)

Suggestion (if not already stated): First-page / last-page links in lieu of the sortable columns.

I think my rating system will be based on how many times I could listen to in one week before I put a hand cannon in my mouth.

I think we're attempting to list every album ever made on the first day.

It's our new toy.

my ratings have been uneven at best because it's pretty much snap judgements.
