Shit, what took me so long to listen to these guys? I'm gettin' lost in Neon Golden at the moment.

RIYL? I'm needing new music ideas right now. Since I picked up Please Kill Me for a 2nd read the other night, I'm totally stuck on anything with Johnny Thunders again....

Good question. I was just about to ask how one would describe this genre of music. It's a bit experimental...fuck it, I'm going to AMG. Be right back.

New Order
Kid A/Amnesiac-era Radiohead

I can even hear some Death Cab for Cutie at times.

New Order, really? I'm not hearing any of that on this. But, definitely the Radiohead reference. Kinda like Autechre, Boards of Canada, Mouse of Mars...an electronic feel but not enough to dissuade non-electronic fans to listen to them.

Check out other things on the Morr label. Lali Puna, and such. I'm not so seasoned on their catalogue, but what you want is in there somewhere, someone else can point out exactly where.

I also can't help but suggest stuff on the Krautrock tip, including Neu! and Faust.

That new wonderful Caribou record should appeal to you.

And I hear 13 & God is really good, but I can't yet attest. Notwist is involved in this.

Oh, I'm a huge fan of the Morr label which is why I'm surprised that it's taken me forever to listen to Notwist. And, yes, I've heard some of the 13 & God stuff -- good shit.

On a sidenote, they're coming to town soon. I ain't missing that show.

(edited for typo)

Do not miss that show -- one of the greatest shows I've been to in years. Warning, though -- they turn into a guitar band on stage. I def see the comparisons to New Order on stage. The only weakness as far as I can see is confidence.

Get 12 and Shrink, too.

Aural, if you're familiar with the Morr Label than you should also know Ms John Soda, Lali Puna... may i also say that the Fiery Furnace EP has a similar style to Neon Golden

Thanks, Dan! I'm quite familiar with Lali Puna and I was recently introduced to Ms John Soda, who I've added to my list of music to buy.

Soooo much good stuff!!

I definitely hear a bit of New Order on Neon Golden, especially on "One With the Freaks."

12 is better than Neon Golden imho. More rock, less electronica.

Anyone else listen to Tied & Tickled Trio? I believe they share some Notwist folks. More jazz influenced and quite different, but still good on the disc I heard, Observing Systems. They're on Morr Music too.

Yeah, I believe I bought it based on your recommendation. I got the one with the red reel-to-reel deck on the front. Definitely dig it.

The electronica guy behind Notwist has an electronica project by the name of Styrofoam, I believe. Or maybe it's Console. I forget...

I found an old live review:

link

Now -- I should say, I have since learned that the Styrofoam guy is not the same guy as the guy in Notwist, but they sure do look the same.

I have no idea, but best not be blamin' me....

They are more "guitar oriented" live, but they're still pretty good/interesting - I'd second the Ms. John Soda (sp?) recommendation if you like this..

If you like Four Tet and Krautrock, you'll probably like the Notwist
