Okay. So are you saying I shouldn't rate anything unless I know it extremely well? Everything I've rated I've known well enough to rate, I think. I've been a radio announcer for 21 years. I've heard and am familiar with a LOT of albums. But I suppose I could only rate albums I actually own, since long-term familiarity often changes opinion.

As for my well-thought out ones, I certainly wouldn't give a 10 to something I don't love.

I'll refrain from ranking ones I'm not quite as familiar with. Maybe it'll make a difference, maybe not.

i don't know if this has been said, but it'd be nice for after you rate an album, to take you back to the page that it was on, rather than having to start from the first page again.

It has been said that you can just click "back" for now, bitch.

Has anybody said why they think it's a bad idea to have lots of genres, and the ability to attach several genres to an album (that anybody can add to/change), so that we can avoid getting angry about which specific genre an album fits in, but we can (if we choose) generate more interesting top X lists? I think it's a good idea, but no one else seems to.

Can you elaborate just a bit on the add to/change? I never thought of it this way before now, but if you mean that you can add your own genre (or even sub-genre, egads!) rather than being able to change someone elses I think it is a pretty interesting idea.

Cory, my thought was that we would have a decent number (maybe 25) genres and sub-genres represented by checkboxes on the "add" and "edit" album page. The person who adds an album would be able to check however many boxes were appropriate, but then if someone else viewed the album and thought a genre was missing or the adder got it wrong, s/he could check/uncheck genres as well. We could also have a couple fill-ins, i guess, but i'd rather agree on a comprehensive (though not all-inclusive) list.

Why the hell not. If it turns into a disaster, is it a pain in the ass to ditch?

Frostingspoon do you really love all those albums?

I didn't realize you were a big Wu-Tang or Max Richter fan, and you haven't talked about Common or Venetian Snares this year as far as I'm aware, yet you give all those albums great ratings. You don't have to rate everything you know.

I don't own any of those albums, but they certainly are very good and I should own them. Hip-hop's not my overall preference, but I know when certain releases stand out from the pile. Haven't had any Wu-Tang for several years, but have a friend who played them nearly every time I was at his place. Common is the current favorite of several relatives and I've heard the CD enough to respect it a lot.

Venetian Snares I've only heard this past week and thought it was great. Like if classical composers had discovered break beats in the 17th century or something.

Richter is the sort of composer whom I've always liked but never get around to buying enough of because my budget's already been spent on some indie pop or power pop thing or other. But Blue Notebooks is a gorgeous album.

I'm glad you can judge albums so well from snippets, relative's favourites and memories of listening to them years ago. Remind me not to listen to any of your well thought out recommendations.

I mean, seriously, how many times have you actually played Dre's 2001, Refused The Shape Of Punk To Come or Vitalic's OK Cowboy (just examples)?

Meh, I can rate 3/4 of the albums that some people have put up sound unheard, or after 3-7 seconds of listening. But that's just shit I hate. ;)

I for one will not get into justifying any album ranking I give... it's a fucking vote. That's how voting works. Discussion thereabouts? Sure. Pissing contest over who's heard it more times? Fuck off.

Yeah, I just made some corrections. I'm not gonna let some shit that some molo listens to in high school parking lots with two votes rank high. I remember that era of music; most of it is utter garbage---that's why I listened to more metal back then.....

As usual, we are taking something beautiful and picking it to pieces. Stop already with the criticism of other people's ratings and telling them criteria for rating. You're wasting your time. If I want to go through there and give every single album listed a 2, I have the power. It's a freaking list of albums. Chill, son.

You just give everything a 10 or a 1. I suppose everyone knows where you stand on an album.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before (there are 6 pages on this thread), is there anyway to make it so when I rate an abulm it returns me to the page I was on instead of clicking back through from page 1?

Pardon me? Check the ratings, I've used every number in the rankings at some point;

you quoted the wrong guy, and he was talking about loog anyway.

Andy - yes, several times, and for now the back button is the answer.

I wouldn't mind a "Comments" function when we submit our rate, for those of us who wish to expound on our choice. Maybe not for each rate, but perhaps for the "Submit an album" function.

That was not directed at you, Yail. It's for the people who want to attack others for the way they rate albums, or for rating them at all.

Oh, yeah. If it hasn't been mentioned, I'd like to see a feature that allows you to go back to the page that you left off on instead of all the way back to page 1. :D

I wasn't getting at anyone except Frostingspoon, it's just I doubt he's heard some of those albums at all.
