I've been waiting for this thread.

I don't like much prog, and I like Yes least. Science fiction and music rarely works for me. But I can see why you would like em. If I were a musician and keyboardist, I would probably like it too.

To keep this thread going. If you don't like Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle than you didn't like parties in 1993. PERIOD. It wasn't party music, it was THE party music.

That's very, very true.

i go back and forth with being really excited, then extremely bored with the charts. also, my rating system is more than erratic. is a C a 7 or a 5?

I can't see how Blonde on Blonde isn't a 10 on everyone's lists.

I'd like to complain about people giving Stones albums anything below a 9 but like Spade said---this is all in good fun.

Pretty interesting how things are shaking out with albums that have, say, at least 10 or 15 votes.

Kind of Blue and London Calling are apparently the best compromise that we dysfunctional assholes can come to.

I got no problem with that.

edit: excessive typos

After a 10 like No Pocky for Kitty, both On the Mouth and Foolish were immensely disappointing, especially the way they were produced.

We have differing tastes.
That is all.

I can't remember who it was, but somebody here rated several of my ALL-TIME TOP 10 albums as a "1". Crazy.

It doesn't bother me that some people don't care about the charts. Given that people have entered 986 albums thus far, clearly some people do care. But it seems to me that, just because we've all been around each other so long, people here feel a need to be outright bitches about things other people are interested in/doing. Case in point, when Katie posted her threadless t-shirt design, EVERY COMMENT from the INDIE HIPSTER STRANGERS on threadless was either positive, or at the least courteous and constructive. Here, one person called it tasteless, another registered on and logged into threadless to rate it a '2,' and Dalen again confused honesty for valuable input.

Why is it that here, if we're not interested in something, we have to state it so stridently? I mean, with music that's fine, it's impersonal enough. But is it really necessary to condemn every activity you don't partake in?

i am confused. is this saying the people on threadless are worse than us? that we're nasty, bitter cranks? of course, we are, but regardless, i think the charts is a great idea. i thought there's been overwhelming support for it.

A lot of it seems to be that people here feel a lot of pressure to be "witty," and for some people the only card they have to play is Smartass Naysayer. Don't get me wrong, it's funny in small doses, as part of a healthy diet of rounded humor, but a straight diet of smartassery will rot your guts.

The other obvious contributing factor is the relatively small size of us, I guess. We're awfully familiar with one another, and that lets the claws out I think, whereas on a bigger board full of strangers, manners take over. Maybe not.

Cotton - I'm saying that someone on Obner followed Katie's link and registered just to give it a crappy rating. Of course the defense is that she said "give me a good rating (or i guess a bad one if you don't like it)" or something. But if you don't ordinarily participate in threadless and would not otherwise have even seen the design, I think it reflects a certain kind of pettiness bred of familiarity to do something like that.

I lost interest because the charts are difficult to navigate and not reader friendly, not to mention, time-consuming. It has nothing to do with what anyone else wrote or said.

I'm just being honest.

if you're referring to my comment, how did i condemn it? i simply, stated that i wasn't into it. why is it ok with music but not regarding music -charts-?

as far as katie's art submission to threadless, it was poor IMO, and i was being honest. would she have preferred something like "yeah, it's cool, but i dunno if i'd buy it". if she works in the art/design industry, she should be used to honest and sometimes blunt critics.

didn't realize it hit such a nerve.

also, in response to your comment above,
i've been signed up to threadless for over 2 and a half years, and i purposely did not go over there and give her a bad rating on the site. i sure hope you're not implying that it was me.

You piped in (first) to say you "couldn't care less" about something people are posting about. Maybe it's not strictly "condemnation," but it seemed like an unnecessary potshot spurred by some kind of baffling animosity.

For the record, Katie's feelings may be completely different from mine with regards to people's responses on here. I thought that, given that she was only asking for a threadless rating, chiming in to voice disapproval of the design was, again, just unnecessary. Maybe if you posted a mix and every other person said "it's shit" you'd be proud of the democratic system. That thread seemed filled with hostility to me, maybe I'm extraordinarily sensitive.

I wasn't implying that that was you who registered to rate Katie's design badly. In the end, only you know your motives, and I'm sorry if I've entirely misjudged the intent of your post. But do you disagree that people are less friendly to others on Obner just because we know each other fairly well? Isn't that kind of fucked up?

ok, maybe -sucks- was a bit harsh, but i was being honest.

so from now on i won't post about anything unless i like it.

Obner's turning into a fucking church.

its posts like these three that annoy me; but whatever, I annoy a lot of people too, so I'm not going to throw stones in my glass house.

And yeah Haq, I joined that site to trash Katie's shirt design because I thought it was the "indie" thing to do.

I learned it by watching you Dad.
