How do I make Foobar reanalyse my music directory so that it adds newly acquired music?

Properties -> Database -> "Scan" button

This is assuming your database is enabled and pointed to the correct directories.

sometimes... right now is one of those times.

Re-adding the parent directory might be quicker and have the same effect. Might. I've just used the scan button out of habit.

ah and you have to close and reopen Foobar for it to see the files in database view? That is kinda weak no?

It would be, but they show up on my album list just fine. Disable/re-enabling the database itself requires an app restart.

Hey Sketch, I think I use foobar all wrong in fact. For instance, to just scroll through my database as I would in iTunes- I actually look at the playlist (database view) -

I am not really a fan of looking through the album list/all music view.. it seems rather time consuming. Do you use any customizations to make the library more managable? I spent many hours reading junk at Hydrogen.. so Im not completely clueless..but Id imagine Im just getting by with Foobar

I also use litestep desktop system etc, which enable Winamp in the toolbar (an old, lite version of winamp.. which I would use if their playlist system wasnt so weak)

For foobar, I have a playlist called 'Full Library' which contains the entire library (sorted by Artist - Year - Album - Track). Anytime I scan for new tracks, I just clear the playlist and re-add the entire database (takes less than ten seconds once the scan is done). Ctrl+F brings up a search pop-up window, which you can use against the active playlist to find tracks you're looking for. This might give you a few more ideas RE: keyboard shortcuts, playback settings.

If I'm looking for something to listen to, I have a habit of using MusicMagic to pick songs or albums and then play them in foobar. There's a setting in foobar (I forget where it is right now), that ensures any music files open outside foobar (MusicMagic, Windows Explorer, etc) show up in the 'Default' playlist, so all your custom playlists are unaffected.
