Steve, have you ever seen the show "Green Wing" on BBC America? They have a funny running joke about Queen.

Brendan Benson - The Alternative to Love
a cool mix that Billzebub made for me (I'm really enjoying this!)
the new David Gray tracks

No, never. Is it something I would need to see to "get" or can you just tell me? Sometimes funny stuff doesn't translate well into print.

Well, it's just that one of the female characters had a crush on one of the male characters, who is notoriously caustic, misogynistic and rude-- don't know why she liked him, maybe it was a "want what you can't have" thing. Anyhow, she finally goes on a date with this guy who is always going on about how manly he is. He's got all his Queen cd's in the car, and when she brings up the fact that Freddie Mercury was gay, he is shocked and doesn't believe her. So then, all self-conscious, he pulls out that cd and puts in... Elton John. So anyhow, the joke is that this manly man who goes on and on about how irresistable to women he is, listens to bands/artists where the singers are gay and he has no idea.

It comes up every once in a while in following episodes, whether he's humming a Queen song, catches himself, and then stops.

Okay, I get it and it's true to life. I know a guy who was totally freaked when I told him Bob Mould was gay.

Hell, I'd have to give up a bunch of music if that bothered me-Husker Du, Magnetic Fields, American Music Club, REM..etc
