I'll be the first in this thread to admit that i couldn't care less about negative Pitchfork reviews.

I was up at my dad's last night and he had last week's Entertainment Weekly sitting there. They reviewed the album and just ripped on them for pretty much just paying homage to their heroes with the album rather then making new music.

It was a pretty bad review.

I'm always going to be biased against them because the first time I heard of them was on MTV.

Don't blame them because you watch t.v., let alone MTV.

Read a book, listen to an album.

Try and write a pop song, and then tell me you're biased against them.

Seriously, sometimes you indie fuckers are intolerable.

"ooh the neptunes are soooo amazing"
"oooh I love the new modest mouse video, it totally fits the song"
"oooooh I love Franz Ferdinand, they're so FRESH."

"oh. The Redwalls, they're on MTV too. Welp, can't listen to that shite."

Only mine wasn't an opinion. I was just reporting something I read.

Next time read a little more clearly before you make your stupid remarks.

And for the record, I own Universal Blues and I wasn't impressed with it. I haven't heard the new one to even comment on it, but having not liked the first one, I doubt I'll listen to the second.

I think this one is better than Universal Blues, but still doesn't do much for me. I wouldn't change the station if it came on the radio, but I wouldn't turn it up or tap my foot either.

I see what you are trying to do here, Phil, and I like it.

Yeh, c'mon Billz, Charli just figured the Obnerati would need to know what Entertainment Weekly thought about a band. On a related note, Modern Ferret magazine gave four paws up to Okkervil River.

Now you're being dumb. I didn't say anything was wrong with The Neptunes.

What's wrong is not liking something because you first heard of it on MTV, instead of not liking it cause you think it sucks, hopefully with some kind of articulate reasoning.

Seriously, it's that kind of obtuse thinking that makes me want to hang out with my junior high music students instead of adults. At least they have a slightly better excuse for being dimwits.

And jewels, it's not directed directly at you, I know you're a class act with good points to make, and blah blah blah.

I'm just lashing out.

agree with this 100%.

i don't think they're all that bad, but i do agree with the comment on Pitchfork about their comparisons to The Beatles.

Dear Pitchfork ,

You need to listen to the record 5 or 6 more times. Then enroll in a course on non-fiction writing. Then punch a clock for a few years to gain life experience. Then scam free albums from your day job. Then consider writing for a jerkwater music website. Then think better of it and slink off into the night.

DERIVATIONS ASIDE - Diggin' the 'F' out of this !
