While listening to a mix today driving around on my "Lunch", I came to realize, not for the first time, how a good crunchy guitar can make you drive fast.

my particular example...

'Geek USA' : Smashing Pumpkins --off 'Siamese Dream'.

Holy shnikeys! Watch yourself with this song.... )

You? What makes your pedal tremble?

Good call, backspace. "Quiet" off the same album also qualifies.

Kings of Leon, Y&YM definitely makes me pick it up. And some early Ozzy, stuff like Crazy Train. Some Stones too.

Just about every mix I make. The only time I listen to tunes these days is behind the wheel.

What did you think of the original version of "Electric Ocean"?

funny as that very song is playing on my pc as I type this. I'd heard it before, a long time ago... wasn't this part of some Manor Sessions cd? Or am I confusing that with the Love tracks? I like it.

Another guitar riff I thought of to speed to: Police Truck by the DK's

For me, it's more the pace of the song (I.E. mostly the drumming). It needs to "sound" fast. And by that, I don't mean it needs to be fast, I just mean it needs to sound fast. So, for example, "Blind Vision" by Blancmange makes me drive fast. "Head Over Heels" by ...shoot, don't remember, Gang of Four? Doubt it...

For example, War Pigs definitely does not make me speed.

he is totally right.

i once got pulled over for speeding while "Crazy Train" was playing on the radio. I told the cop this, sort of offering it as an explanation. he got it. i still had to pay the ticket.

It's from the aborted "Peace" album, that mostly morphed into "Electric".

I've had a bootleg of "Peace" since '87 or so, got hooked up by a co-worker at the chain store in high school. It's now available as part of the rarities box set.

Tears for Fears.
No, less known. Lyrics go something like "Head over heels (over heels) in love with you, head over heels..." I think it might be Michael Cretu as Invisible Man.

And no, it's not the Go-Go's or Cocteau Twins, neither.
