I have this 'dry patch' at the top of my mouth. It's kinda like, you know, when you eat really hot soup and it's nice and everthing (mmm Minstrone) but then you think "hey that was hot!" and that you've burned the roof of your mouth.

But it's been like that for two days and I've not had any soup. I can't even remember the last time I had soup. We can definately rule out soup. Anyway, I've been drinking hanging off my bed so as to 'water' the spot with cold drinks but it makes no difference, the only thing it's successfully damped is my carpet. It's just this really weird paranormal patch of dryness in my mouth, like it was made out of rain mac material.

I'm just worried about it. I've never had a dry patch on the top of my mouth for two days before. This is new medical ground for me. I want to be reassured. I want someone to say to me "OK we heard your symptoms and we can definately rule out Dry-Spot-On-Palate-Die-In-The-Night syndrome. That's all. I'd just like some one with a little medical knowledge to tell me that.

There's just something bizarre and not normal about this whole thing.

I'm a doctor, but not the prescribing kind. Is the patch sore or tender at all? Is it discoloured? Obivously you can't see the roof of your mouth, but has someone looked at it for you?

Well I probably damaged my neck beyond repair trying to look at the top of my mouth but I didn't see anything. It just feels dried out and sort of burning.

I've decided I'll be fine now. I get carried away at the slightest little things.

Eh, it's probably worth looking into if it doesn't clear up after a week.

As a physician-in-traing, I would say that we need some sort of visual. You should have a photo taken and upload it so that we can all see this paranormal patch of dryness. We should also examine the following:

1) Do you smoke? To excess?
2) Do you drink alcohol? To excess?
3) Have you felt 'run down'?
4) Are you immunocompromised? Were you recently on antibiotics or oral steroids? (asthma meds, prednisone, etc.)
5) What does it look like? Is your tongue affected?

I believe in oral leukoplakia, your tongue is usually affected and it looks like thrush, but which doesnt scrape off. I think we can safely exclude
Dry-patch-in-the-mouth-that-might-kill-you-in-the-middle-of-the-night Syndrome, but please dont let this stop you from seeking proper medical attention, should this problem persist.

I have to think that a good picture would certainly clear this up for me ;)

Yeah, this is like trying to diagnose a rash over the phone. A visual would really help.

Darrin is the male version of Deep Throat (by which I mean, Linda Lovelace, not Mark Felt)? He has a male g-spot in his mouth, just as LL had her clit in her mouth?

The amount of irrelevant info in the poster's question is funny enough, but his followup is golden!

If you have what this guy has, it's a pretty normal case of worry-too-much.

Who knew they were so many obner doctors out there?

I'm still in training but I would agree with most of what's been said, but I think it's worth going to see a doctor and getting it checked out. It could be either some kind of leukoplakia or thrush. If you can scrape it off and it's whitish, it's probably thrush. Which is basically a fungal infection in your mouth that can be treated. If it's leukplakia, they might want to send you to an ENT doctor or something.

I've come down with a cold so I think it's just that.

I don't have spots or anything like that in my mouth, when I said that I just meant spot as 'area' in the general sense.

You just had a cold not too long ago. You might need to start supplementing your diet with vitamins, Mr. Frew.

I don't do vitamins. What do you think this is? California?

Darrin, Darrin, Darrin...I'm only thinking of your well-being. Besides, being ill always makes one feel miserable.

Tom Cruise suggests that a little vitamins and exercise will take care of everything that ails you.
