The writer makes it seem like it's a done deal, but then the article doesn't make it seem so iron-clad. Anyway :

PIXIES TO MAKE FIRST ALBUM IN 14 YEARS

Reformed alt-rock legends PIXIES are planning to record their first album in 14 years.

The band’s frontman Black Francis has confirmed the band, who got back together last year to huge acclaim, are preparing to make their first studio album since 1991’s ’Trompe Le Monde’.

He told contactmusic: “It's all hugs and kisses, I'm pleased to report.

"We have been discussing recording a new album lately. As happy as we are with the success of the reunion tour, we really want to make a record for the right reasons, whether it is successful commercially or not."

He added: "We would be satisfied if it played like our other records, never chart-topping but always in print."

Since the band got back together they have recorded two songs - ’Bam Thwok’ - which was rejected for the ’Shrek 2’ soundtrack and then released as a download-only single, and a cover of Warren Zevon’s ’Ain’t That Pretty At All’, which appeared on ’Enjoy Every Sandwich’, a tribute album to the late singer.

Pixies headline this year’s Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals between August 27 and 29.

Black Francis releases a new solo album under the name Frank Black next week (July 18). ’Honeycomb’ is the first record he’s done alone since 1996’s ’The Cult Of Ray’.

based on Bam Thwok, I'm not sure this is such a hot idea.

Without having heard Bam Thwok, I'm certain this is a bad idea.

The goofiness of "Thwok" makes more sense when you see it was intended for "Shrek 2 : The Wrath Of Khan" , which I hadn't heard before.

Actually, I think if there's a band who can do a reunion album & actually pull it off, it's these guys.

I agree but it would be terribly heartbreaking to see this go wrong.

Seeing the reunion tour was great yet meh at the same time.
Franks in it for the the cash.

More touring equals= more exposure+attention drawn to his solo work=big checks

Seriously, what's the worst that can happen - Trompe Le Monde?

a lot worse can happen than Trompe Le Monde, guys. This ain't exactly a 1992 "follow up" or anything

But I am more apt to agree with Spade on this one---it ain't 1992 or even 1997.

Plus I'm such a huge Frank Black fan that I am now content for one of my all time favorite bands to do some more tours so they can all live nicely, but leave the new stuff to Mr. Black and his cronies of choice.

See, I think that even if they release something that's not that great it's not a HUGE deal. It's not like it makes the old records drop in quality.

I'd think people would be excited over the possibility of new music from one of their favorites.

I'll just give them the benefit of the doubt... I mean Frank may be cashing in, but he's still creative, and I'm sure Kim still has tricks left.

i happen to enjoy "bam thwok" quite a bit but i have an inherent distrust in long awaited reunion albums. although mission of burma kind of proved me wrong... still......

Actually, we have a dozen sharks who are needed single file.
