this album kicks ass. nice shifts in tempos (way to try out every genre there guys). The bass player absolutely kicks ass, the keyboards are everwhere, and the guitars occasionally channel Tom Scholz.

Probably a little jammy in places for some, but that kind of thing never really bothered me.

All in all a fine effort and way to live up to my expectations.

Oh, and the track What A Wonderful Man is now on constant loop.

This is a big change in sound for MMJ---on songs like Wonderful Man and Off the Record, they even sound a little poppy. Like someone said in another thread, they've definitely moved away from their southern roots, but after a couple of listens, I like it quite a bit.

Thanks for the hookup Dalen.

Just wanted to weigh in on this one. I've listened to this a few times now and it is indeed solid. "Off the Record" and "What a Wonderful Man" are such great songs. "Lay Low" does get a bit jammy but all in all this is a fine effort.

tentoze, the vocals are still reverb drenched but the music is a little less so but I like the reverb.

The songs are just so good.

mcaputo hit the nail on the head.

I like the 2 songs that Dalen put up last week. If it wasn't for the dude's voice on It Beats For You, I wouldn't even know it was the same band.

Anyone want to pm me this?

are you guys still loving this album?

it was such a change of direction that i had to give myself a bunch of listens before i stated my opinion.
now that i've listened to it a ton, i can say i'm pretty disappointed. it's not bad by any stretch...but given how much i've loved their previous output, this isn't doing much for me (gideon and dondante excepted).

i think seeing them live maybe will change my mind on some of these tunes....

I definitely need to sit down and really listen to this. I have it on the ipod and was listening to it for the first time while walking to the store. It never clicked for me, but maybe it's not the right time to be hearing it like that.

after a few more listens i've cooled a bit just in comparison to "it still moves". still one of my weekly new album favs to listen to.

I can't really stop listening to it. One of my top 3 favorites this year. It's pretty drastically different from It Still Moves, but all the songs are winners for me. It wasn't really a grower for me, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it.

If anyone's interested in PMing me a copy of the album, I'd really appreciate it. I've liked their past work, and even own it, but don't go back to listen to it all that often. Maybe this one will be different.
