Meh.

Saul Williams was pretty enjoyable, though.

And I developed a serious disdain for smokers at this show. They never really bothered me before, though. I wanted to punch a few of these smokers, though.

I wanted to punch a few non-smokers, too.

you never realize just how much people smoke until you're at a show. also how unbelievably disgusting it is and how much sooner i'm probably going to die as a result of secondhand smoke inhalation. maybe. there was a bit of the pot going around at the main stage too.

all in all, the day was a welcome reprieve from mono, even though it probably didn't do much at all to help me recover from it. i just wish i was able to upload my pictures as my usb cable is in a different state (the location, not the condition of being) at the moment. got some good ones too.

check out my synopsis aqui: clicky

Spizzle, if you don't mind me asking -- how old are you? And how old is your dad? Cuz I think it's fuckin' awesome that your dad drove you there. Did he dig the music too?

reminds me of my earlier years....my dad driving myself and my skate punk friends to miami [cameo theater] to see punk/hardcore shows. my dad used to sit in the back and drink coffee while bands like decsendents, blast, token entry, all, dead kennedys, circle jerks, the ramones, youth of today, bold, meatmen, etc used to bang it out on stage. my dad has probably seen more punk rock shows than most pops.

awesome. dads fucking rock.

I got there and saw a little bit of Ambulance Ltd, and yeah they were kind of boring. The only other band I really saw was Q And Not U. I guess they were good but the sound was really shitty and I was pretty far back from the stage. It might've sounded better up front. I thought I wanted to hang around for some other bands before I got there but the sun and humidity pretty much killed me.

I also saw Haunted Pussy on the boardwalk. I wish I could post pics from my cameraphone.

Other than that, I got a wicked sunburn on the back of my neck, had one beer, saw an older muscled guy in a speedo who might as well have not been wearing anything, got into a water gun fight and then left. The rest of the day was pretty fun. Went and got indian food and then went to Lit later on that night.

sorta famous...saw martin from the 22-20s. didn't realize he was standing in front of me until after the second song of vhs or beta.

on my way home on the subway, the guitarist from radio 4 was there.

i think lindsey lohan was there. she was wearing avitor sunglasses. if it wasn't her, it was probably her sister.

i wish more people had shown up earlier for 9 black alps. they were excellent!

I thought I saw Steve Burns on the subway after the show.

People convinced me it wasn't him.

i was kind of surprised i didn't see anyone famous hanging out in the v.i.p./press area in front of the stage this year. maybe i just wasn't looking hard enough. two years ago david cross was standing right in front of me but i didn't want to bug him.

the sound at this thing is abysmal. the hipster : real person ratio was out of control. SOOOOOO many people there just b/c and to see friends and talk rather than witness live music.

Dungen was great, VHS or Beta was good, Be Your Own Pet sucked (as usual) and I couldn't really hear Spoon at all from where I was standing.

Highlights of the day were eating Nathan's, riding the Cyclone, and swimming in the water. Lowlights were all music related.

ah yes, i almost forgot about how many beautiful girls there were at this thing. any of these hipster music deals seem to produce hoards of attractive girls. had i not been there with who i was, things may have turned out better in a that sort of way.

$6.50 = 64 oz. beer

i didn't partake much, but, damn.

q and not u was better than i thought they'd be.

be your own pet was silly and adolescent and i enjoyed it for about two songs.

me and my friends found no fewer than three used condoms sticking up out of the sand (no, they weren't attached to anybody) on the beach. it was the grossest.

better than you thought they'd be?!? they consistently put on one of the most energetic live shows i've seen. if only long island hadn't kept me away from one of their last shows...
