So, this band is, like, total hot shit here in Baltimore now that they've got some P-fork love; it just seems a bit random for me. Anyone heard the album yet? "Arkless" is pretty cool, I must say.

I don't know a lot about the band, but I have a feeling their site is going to be as difficult to find as The National's was.

I heard somebody say that they sorted sounded like the first track ('untitled') on Interpol's TOTBL. Do they? If so i'd probably enjoy them.

WILDERNESS official site

Props to you for finding it but that's probably the most useless band site I've ever seen.

Album's grown on me quite a bit. I think that it would be even better with a different vocalist, but I don't mind this guy.

Yeah, the vocals kinda remind of The Hold Steady (and I really, really don't like that dude's voice), but without their level of lyrics. Musically, however, I like them much, much more than band.

The vocals don't bother me too much, but they do kinda hold the album back, I think.

It is a great, unique sounding work. The "sticker" on the CD pegs it... PiL era Johnny Lydon fronting Popol Vuh. Great Edge-like shards of guitar noise falling down. A touch of Pere Ubu.

If you like(d) PiL, you'll like this. If you didn't like PiL... you might have trouble with the vocals.

In my top five of the year so far. But I have bad judgement.

I've heard the album once, but it really didn't hit me. It just sounds like another plain "indie rock" album. According to Allmusic, their influences are bands that I love (Psychedelic Furs, Captain Beefheart), but I don't hear it in any of their music.

I think Lydon's vocals (or Lydon style vocals) fit PiL's music better then they fit this Wilderness album. I still really like the album though, and it may be top 15. Musically it's pretty great, but as Drinky said, the vocals don't bother me much, but they do hold the album back a little.

Yeah I tried to listen to this yesterday and made it through a song and 1/2 before I shut it off and deleted it. I like some weird vocalists (xiu xiu, hold steady) but this guy is just awful.

I've liked the couple songs I've heard.

Between this, Okkervil River, Oneida, Black Mountain, Jagajaguar is having a great year. But then pretty much everything that label puts out is quality.
