Or better yet, we should just bomb the whole fucking school district and put up a parking lot.

Better yet, these pissant "educators" should spend a weekend reading Gifted Hands, Dr. Ben Carson's autobiography. Or how about a year's worth of colums penned by William Raspberry.

Absolutely disgusting. Why work when you can just give up.

My dad met him a few months or so ago. He spoke highly of Raspberry.

But, if you consider Ebonics to be an analog version of drunk-posting, you look at it in a whole new way. This bulletin-board becomes another language, one that we all respect and want respected. Same with those who speak in the non-conjugate Ebony-phone.

Y' hear?

Since whitey hijacks all things black anyway, I suggest making ebonics the national language.

So I am assuming that in addition to the "sensitivity" training the teachers will be receiving, each of the students identified as speaking Ebonics as their native tongue will be enrolled in ESL (English as a Second Language) classes?

Is that right? I'm not sure I am understanding the proposal--it's not like classes will be taught in Ebonics.....correct?

Does anyone else think this could be more demeaning than affirming?

"DeLatoya Jackson, while the rest of us are reading Steinbeck's "The Red Pony", you will be attending the ESL class in room 101. You can follow Xiong Chakpong--she knows where to go. Oh, I'm sorry, I bet you didn't understand me....DeLatoya, you best be gettin' yo' ass down to room-izzay one oh one."

it's not like people who speak in ebonics can't understand traditional english.
and the only reason than anyone can't understand ebonics is because the kid might be mumbling.

i think that ebonics should be accpeted in school where IDEAS are being expressed. Just like i dont' think you should fail a history test because you can't spell. You shouldn't make a student feel like an idiot if they have great ideas.

But you should be able to tell them they are expressing their ideas ineficiantly.

also Morgan Freeman should teach all classes.

Look what it did to Kenny Rogers...turned him from the Gambler ( not to mention the Coward Of The County ) into a complete asshole. Sure did.

Well according to the article:

Quote:
Texeira said research has shown that students learn better when they fully comprehend the language they are being taught in.

So it would seem to me that Texeira disagrees with you.

I'm still curious as to what this pilot program effectively accomplishes and how it is done. The article only speaks about specialized training for the teachers on black culture and customs.

Somewhat related note:

Here's an article from the BBC that furthers the idiocy running rampant in education:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4697461.stm

It's about replacing the term "fail" with "deferred success."

and i would disagree with her that the students can't verbally understand someone who speaks propperly. They aren't that differnt, just a few added vowells and swapping and rearanging of a few words.

i think the frustration of people who speak in ebonics (and i really hate that term) is that they have trouble expressing themselves in the written word. And when they try to mimic the way they think their teacher wants to hear it, they get frustrated and lose focus of expressing their point.
