That hidden track isn't on the original pressing of the album, only the pressing after it became a surprise success.

Objective reality seems out of place in this thread, but that's what I like to call a sweet fact.

No chuckles here! Seriously, one of the greatest albums ever, definitely. Very, very solid. Hardly even sounds dated today, and what does sound dated sounds so in a charming way.

For me, there are two favourites, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and Animals. So I guess I basically agree with you, as I can't pick one over the other, it's just what mood I'm in.

Other favourites: Neubauten, Silence is Sexy; ITN, Hindle Wakes; Matt Elliott, The Mess We Made; Tear Garden, Last Man to Fly...it just depends on what mood I'm in.

Last Man to Fly is great. Definitely their most underrated album.

You know what's great? Listening to it backwards. Like track 16, then 15, then 14, etc. ... finally, track 1.

My favorite album of all time is Husker Du's New Day Rising. There's no question about it.

As far as best goes, I can't think of any contenders off the top of my head, but I think to even be considered every song must be absolutely perfect, and the album must be sequenced in a way that it flows well and makes a coherent whole.

I am going to make a distinction between FAVORITE album of all-time and GREATEST album of all-time. The biggest distinction is my favorite album had a profound influence on me and my listening habits, during the time of its original release. GREATEST album of all-time was one I came to later in life and though important the cultural impact is lost on me.

Both albums must have great songs from beginning to end with no perceived weak tracks. This eliminates albums that are close but have what I consider at least one weak song; albums like LONDON CALLING, PINK FLAG (or any of the first three Wire albums), UNKNOWN PLEASURES, ALL MOD CONS, WISH YOU WERE HERE and others.

Favorite album of all-time = VIOLENT FEMMES

Greatest album of all-time = HIGHWAY 61, REVISITED

COMPLETELY RATIONAL, OBJECTIVE EQUATION FOR FINDING THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL-TIME EVER:

    - add your favorite albums to a list
    - subtract any album by a band your dad has never heard of
    - pick the oldest one left

= THE GREATEST

BTW, the greatest band of all-time ever is fugazi.

Oh, do tell. I'm curious what you consider those "at least one weak tracks" are, especially on WYWH. (Not a flame.)

Albums without a single weak track:
Hüsker Dü - Flip Your Wig
Wire - Pink Flag
Fear - Fear: The Album
Kinks - Something Else (Maybe "Kiss Me Till the Sun Shines", but even that is pretty cool.)
Nick Lowe - Jesus Of Cool
Television - Marquee Moon
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Blur - Parklife
Pulp - Different Class
Eno - Another Green World
Ramones - Ramones

That said, the all-time BEST album ever is still
Pet Sounds

Just because of the way it makes me feel.

Nice. A few more for consideration:

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Airplane Over the Sea
Grandaddy - Sophtware Slump
U2 -Achtung Baby

- the flow is undeniable on these. Makes even the weaker tracks a treat (which makes them stronger?) In honor of Sketch, I also submit:

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing. Same reason; although I don't know if I could really say there are no weak tracks.

I'm not a big fan of "Welcome to the Machine" from Wish, on Pink Flag, "106 Beats That", could have been left off. London Calling has "Lovers Rock" which I don't like too much. All this is of course IMO.

hmmm... what is the cap'n trying to tell us? Black is, of course, the greatest color of all time. The greatest album must be the black album from either Jay-Z or Metallica or Spinal Tap.

The first Ramones record because it is the only flawless record ever made. There's not a low point, boring section or bummer song on the entire thing. Nothing's overblown, overdone, or underdone. Exciting for all of it's 28-minutes woth no let up...

Or Sgt. Pepper's for the exact opposite reason.

There's another term for it, me thinks, but it involves evacuating one's bowels and felatio.

HOW IN THE FUCK DOES A THREAD ABOUT GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME GO TO ALMOST THREE PAGES WITHOUT A SINGLE FUCKING MENTION OF EXILE ON FUCKING MAIN STREET?!!? You asshats.
