It was an almost scandalous start to the Obday when Dnorwood revealed something red was causing her to “squeal with delight” while Onebrownjeff was desperate to “splurge”. Fortunately they hadn’t got together and the catalyst for their reactions were merely a new Prius and a proposed record shopping expedition.
Pumachik, meanwhile, was fresh back from a trip to All Tomorrows Parties and kindly wrote us a review of the weekend in her inimitable Valley Girl style. Apparently she had been “totally stoked” to acquire backstage passes but missing Wolf Parade had left her understandably “bummed”. Fortunately The Walkmen provided a rousing finish to the festival by virtue of being “awesome, awesome, awesome”. I, for one, am always glad to hear of thrice awesomeness.
Elsewhere things were taking a turn decidedly for the weird. The now apparently insane Dnorwood (possibly over excited by her new Prius, possibly high from huffing emulsion fumes while decorating her kitchen) announced googly-eyed, that the Blondie track “Pretty Baby” was in fact written about her dog, Bean. Suuuure it was.
Lucky for us though, we were quickly returned to something approaching mundane order by two level-headed old timers. First, OPA (always keen to avoid clichéd behaviour) made catty remarks about a man’s wardrobe and by the time Charli had reminded everyone she was infact “married now” the ‘it-happens-everyday’ normalcy had obviously, and thankfully, been restored.
The Obday finished on something of a celebratory note with an all-round-to-Robotboys grill party finale. The hungry Obnerians weren’t slow to put in their orders. Katie, A Princess requested chicken breast, bleu cheese and caramelised onions, Dalen asked for turkey burgers dressed with zucchini, while Locky wanted…ummm…deer penis.
