the new Duran Duran?

It's n my list, but I have been hesitant to pick it up after 'pop trash'.

mind you , i loved the 'Wedding Album" and 'Medazzaland'.

i guess i should just buy it out of respect, but havent really heard it discussed too much here....

anything?

it's okay... I made the mistake of downloading it a month or so before release, so by the time I actually got it, it wasn't so exciting for me anymore. There are some really good songs on the album (Taste the Summer, Point of No Return, One of those Days) and there are some real stinkers on the album (Bedroom Toys, Astronaut, Finest Hour). The rest of the songs are okay, but nothing spectacular (although I must admit a fondness for "Want You More" when working out at the gym).

I'm a Duran purist, so I would have bought it no matter what. I also got the album that came with the dvd, which was short but interesting.

It's definitely a return to their "sound," although I find it a bit disconcerting to hear them doing songs that are clearly trying to compete with the younger popsters out there. I just wish they would have gone back to the original formula-- experimental, different and fun music that is still accessible, i.e. New Religion, The Chauffeur, Anyone Out There, Night Boat, etc. Overall, not a bad effort, but if you're not really into them, you probably wouldn't miss much.

I'm on Clever Cactus if you want to download and listen for yourself.

I'd agree that if you're not a big fan, then let it alone. Either that or preview the tracks on iTunes or something. You get a pretty good feel for what they're doing. I don't think it's just Obner that isn't talking about the album. I'm not sure what they were planning on: A return to chart form, hence the more modern sounding songs to compete with other current popstars or A retro album to appeal to the old Duran fans. I think they probably missed their window with both.

For the record, I actually really like the album. One of my favourite songs is Bedroom Toys which isn't 'classic' sounding DD, but I think it wouldn't have been out of place on Notorious, which I'm very fond of indeed.
