Yea, but October?!?!?!?!? Damnit. I was hoping it'd come in August or early September. Oh well, I was going to rewatch season 1 pretty soon anyways, so this gives me POT.

am i the only one who is turned off from that show because of the insepid narration. I'm glad ron howard is along to tell me when something is funny or ironic. ihad trouble figuring it out. Is the narration there to appeal to the lowest common denominator?

that's why the Office works and, for me, Arrested Development doesn't.

so, in your mind, the show is not only free of faults but above criticism?

I think the narration is generally pretty sparing. There have been a couple of times when I thought he explained something that I wanted to be left on my own to get, but mostly he just fills in the gap between scenes.

it was just curiousity for me really. i perused the topic and nobody mentioned it, good nor bad, which was surprising to me. i wondered if it bothered anyone else. in my opinion, the show would benefit without the narration, but i guess i hadn't realized that it became such a sacred cow.

I enjoy the narration because it is something different than the rest of the sitcoms on tv. I disagree that he points out where something is funny, but feel rather that it is a necessary aid to keep the show going at the frenetic pace at which it often runs.

while I do an occasional dose of AD I will say that it is easily the most overrated show on TV.

Maybe I've just developed an aversion to sitcoms nomatter how ingenius they are (and AD is ingenius but it is a pretty blatant rip on Larry Sanders and anything that Larry David has been involved in)

Entourage is probly the only 30 minute show i watch anymore.

Shit, I'm starting a favorite TV shows thread.

I don't see how it can be overrated when such a small segment of the population actually watches it. Those that do (including a majority of hte folks on this board, it seems) tend to be a bit obsessive about it, yes, but I think your view of it being overrated might be a bit reactionary to the fervor of which people on this board like it.

i guess that i was alluding more to its being (over)rated by critics and pseudo-hipsters like us as opposed to the general public.

my bad for the lack of clarification, brotha

I can see that, especially when during the season there is a thread about the week's episode every week, quoting it. I enjoy those threads, but I can see what you are saying.

Still, it's objectively the best show on TV so how can it possibly be overrated by anyone?

Actually, I think it doesn't have enough demeaning of women's bodies in it for lesemajesty. The narration is just as important to the humor of the show as the characters themselves.

Arrested Dev is anything but low-brow. I put the people who "don't get it" in the "don't ever deal with these people because they obviously don't have a sense of humor" file (it's a really long folder tab to fit that all.) They scare me.

And overrated? Hardly. Overrated is when EVERYONE says it's so great, and it's really not, ie Coldplay. It is, however, THE funniest show I've ever seen on TV with seasons 2-4, 5, whatever, of Seinfeld.

i think the voiceover is kinda necessary, as there's so much shit crammed into each half hour that it would be impossible for a first-time viewer to understand what the hell was going on, especially with the snail's pace that most tv crawls at today.

and entourage blows.

Fair enough on the "overrated" issue...I don't agree, but that's just a matter of personal taste.

But I don't get the Sanders & David comparisons at all...other than all the shows involved have great writing.

And as far as the narration goes, the only thing that bugs me about it is that it's too loud. It's always about twice as loud as the scene dialogue, which I don't get.

Whew, I'm relieved now. I thought maybe my comments were enough to change your ways.

I do, however, agree. Portia - hottest confirmed lesbian ever.

Oh, lesemajesty, you're not going to be any fun to have around if you can't just go with the crap that gets tossed around here.

I agree with all of the above. I find Ron's narration funny as well. As for being overrated? I don't understand that comment at all. Last year my friend lent me the first season on dvd. I had never watched it before and my exposure to it in the media was minimal. After watching the whole season, I thought it was probably the funniest mainstream 'sitcom' I'd ever seen. Is it a rip-off of Larry Sanders? I don't know, maybe I didn't watch enough of it. I tried watching his show and I didn't think it was that funny and never understood the love he or his show received.

My opinion on most of the dissenters? Probably knee jerk hatred of a much fawned over show. Substitute Arrested Development for Arcade Fire or the Wrens or whatever else 2005 brings us. People will hate something just because, I guess.

It's been said many times over, but 'indie' knows no boundaries.

Heads-up...FOX is showing 2 hours worth of "AD" tonite. I think they're gonna be doing this on Fridays for 2-3 weeks...it would appear that they're starting at the beginning of Season 2 & running all the episodes.
