WHAM!

Hated 'em then.
Lately, I've heard a couple of their old tunes (and early George Michael solo stuff) and realized that they were actually pretty damn good.

Of course, I like Hanson, too. So take that as you will.

Still... I'm thinking about picking up a George Michael "Best Of..." or something, if I can find it cheap.

The only artists I have ever grown to like after stating I hated them are:
The Cure
The Smiths/Morrissey
New Order/Joy Division
It mostly has to do with being raised in a Nebraska town of 25,000 people with only two rock radio stations and growing up during the hair metal/grunge heyday.

I'm not sure that I have ever hated any band, though I have been known to mock the afflicted.

I have gone from misunderstanding to enlightenment a few times. Most notably with:

Led Zep
Oukast
Magnetic Fields
John Hiatt
Paul Oakenfold

That IS gay.

And I can hook you up with his solo GH if you like.

My husband helped enlighten me on these artists. Somehow I can't convince him to like Duran Duran though.... wonder why? ;)

I really hated The Strokes. The hype, the clothes, the hair, the to-good-looking-by half lead singer.

After listening to them rather than just seeing them or reading about them, they turned out to be really good. What a disappointment!

I saw Blonde Redhead saturday, and going in I thought I remembered hating that record when I first heard it. They were pretty fucking awesome.

I used to think I hated Led Zep, so I never paid attention to their music. Turns out, I just hated the people in high school who loved them.

Hated Pearl Jam in h.s., considered it Cheerleader music. Then I got to usher a show at the Fox in atlanta, and did a 180. I honestly had no idea they were that good.

Slooooowly coming around on Oasis. Just trying to get over those gigantic egos.

Interesting reaction. I had the opposite one. These artists were a breath of fresh air to me when I first heard them (while growing up in an Iowa town of 3000).

Oh, and for the record, "Reassessing Artists You Used To Hate" is the working title for my life's story, much as Bloor's title is "Saying Things You Can Never Take Back."

people always say stuff like, "you're either a beatles guy or a stones guy" and beign young and dumb i thought that was true, so i picked the beatles and ran with it.

then one day on a whim i picked up "let it bleed" and fell in love.
hard.

Pretty funny interview with the Gallaghers in the latest Q. The interviewer spends virtually half the interview trying to get Liam to admit that he loves his big brother.

Also, and I'm not up on all things Oasis, but apparently Liam questioned the paternity of Noel's kid a while back and Noel has kept him at arms length ever since.

One of my first posts back in the winter was about personalities as a factor in liking music. Once you know, it's hard to tune out.

Todd,

If you buy a Wham album before you get Transa, I'm gonna snap my copy of Lo Fi is Better than No Fi At All in two in protest.

np: Yankees v. Twins

I can't think of anything I've outright hated and then changed my mind to liking them, but there are plenty of things I listen to and am indifferent to, only to go back later and at least somewhat like, or in some cases, love them.

Examples:

Cocteau Twins (one of my favorite bands)
Dead Can Dance
The KLF
Aphex Twin
The Boredoms

I'm sure there are others, but those are just off the top of my head. The Cocteau Twins are the only ones on that list that I truly LOVE, but I own albums by and enjoy the others as well.
