stevec (from CMJ) got in touch with me today and said that they're on schedule to finish the redesign of their site/revamp of the bb software in mid-August. When he does, we have the opportunity to hand off all of our usernames and passwords and pick back up where we left off over there. Undoubtedly the setup will be a bit different - some of the mods I've added will be missing, people will lose their drastically inflated post counts - but otherwise it sounds like a better time than ever to do what people have talked about doing since obner began.

i don't think it would be smart to keep running 2 boards if they did this, unless we're collectively dedicated to remaining an independent venture. the thing i can see people really missing is the charts feature, though i'm not sure how long. so if we made the move, I would keep just the charts available and lock down (but not entirely erase) the board.

anyway, now you can spout off on this important(?) development.

I was never a poster on the CMJ board so I don't really know what the difference is other than it will be run by other people I assume. I think if the board is back on CMJ it will only help to attract new people. I know some may see that as a bad thing but I say the more the merrier (to a point at least).

I dunno, Haq. It'll be a shame to deep six Obner (although I don't know how much work it is to maintain). Just seems like something more could eventually come of it - but maybe that's just the krylon talking.

It doesn't really matter to me. I do like the avatars here and being able to post pics/links and have PM's.


If this place ever becomes a hassle for you to maintain then I would say sure just so people who are actually getting paid to maintain a board can do it versus you having to take your personal time to do it.

Wow! Great news for CMJ! Bad news for Obner. But, I'm a chameleon, adaptable to both environments. If it means that CMJ's board will be new and improved, I'm all for it. Besides, I know that the board is becoming a bit of a pain in the ass for you to maintain -- something we are ALL entirely grateful for.

I'll go where everyone goes but...going back to CMJ may alleviate Aaron of the pressure of maintaining this board. It's OK now, but he will go back to school this Fall, so that's something to think about.

And it's always nice to have new posters join the CMJ board as it's easier to find.

On the downside, the street teamers have made a home of that board and it'll be a bitch to get rid of them.

Well, maybe if we all move over there, someone can overtake my massively inflated post count.

I vote to keep Obner until it becomes too burdensome to do so; No offense to Steve and the other CMJ staff, but they havent exactly demonstrated themselves to have the ability to keep up with things----which means we'll all end up back here eventually..........

I didn't migrate from CMJ, so my view is necessarily different than a lot here, but the selfish inner-child in me says if Obner goes by the wayside, I can't see myself going to CMJ. Revamped software isn't going to flush out the street teamers that appear to have become a significant percentage of the oosters there. Just my $.02.

Actually, it was always a blast going at it with some of the street teamers. Who could forget Oatmill?

I think it's best we keep this around but locked down a bit and migrate back to CMJ and give them a chance again. If they really are revamping the site and promise no more meltdowns, then why not?

I'll believe the new and improved CMJ BB when I see it. Obner is home, but should Haq end up needing us to move out, it's a reasonable alternative. Think of it as moving from a house to an apartment, or something. We'll still have a roof over our heads and all, just not as many amenities.
