Ladies and gentlemen of the jury:

I need to make 2 mixes, to cover a total span of about 2 hours. The first needs to be "upbeat to the point of just-about-danceable, but not dance music" and the other should be kick-ass moody retro 80's shtick. The target for these mixes is a good girly friend of Ours who's moving to LA. She's more or less an honorary Obnerite, with regards to music... loves andrew bird, loves the decemberists, loves the arcade fire, etc. But the songs on mix 1 need to be very, very Happy, if you get me. Oh, and if you love me, your (inevitable) suggestions would involve YSI, but beggars can't be choosers.

For Mix 1, I'm thinking so far:
- Ambulance Ltd / Anecdote
- Kaiser Cheifs / I predict a riot
- Beck / Que Onda Guero (which I hope somehow translates as "I was just kidding, I'm not a fucking scientologist... what am I, stupid?")
- Stars / Ageless Beauty, The First Five Times
- Wheat / Already With Someone
- Ike Reilly / Garbage Day

and for Mix 2, I'm actually more lost...
- Adam Ant / Goodie 2 Shoes......? I feel like I can do better
- Frente / Ordinary Angels
- INXS / Don't Change
- Nick Lowe / Cruel To Be Kind

but really what I need is more of the semi-dark dance stuff, ala Donny Darko soundtrack I guess. Aaaargh, help?!

For Mix 1, I'd add Sons And Daughters' Johnny Cash. It's unbelievably energetic and it's guaranteed to make you move.

good, good, good...

Toe happy, yes. The kind of thing that a group of (mostly) chicks with both good music taste and good buzzes will want to dance to on a boat.

I can burn this thing, except for the Prince track, but 16 tracks leaves you a half-dozen shy of a full disc.

The pertinent question is, can you YSI or AIM it? Because then I should truly owe you bigtime... not that that means much.
