Currently on top rotation of new discs are two albums that don't have a U.S. release date yet. I don't think My Computer's first album ever came out here even.

The Editors * The Back Room (Kitchenware)
I read some enthusiastic reviews about this yesterday, downloaded a few tracks and heard them just before going out last night. The songs stuck in my head, and later last night I was passing by Virgin, so I stopped in, and there it was in the import section, complete with the bonus 6 track EP, Cuttings! Talk about impulse buy -- I hadn't even heard of the band eight hours earlier. The main gist is despite their extremely familiar sound (Echo+Joy Division+The Sound+Elbow+Interpol), their songs and performances are great enough to forgive. And the lyrics are overall a few notches above Interpol's, lending it a much stronger emotional impact. I'm on my third listen, and I have to say it makes up for my big disappointment with the new Longwave. Here's a few reviews:

Music Omh | BBC | Playlouder | Drowned In Sound

My Computer * No CV (Tesla)
I was nuts for their 2002 debut, Vulnerabilia, which surprisingly never really took off. Three years have gone by already, and their new offering doesn't disappoint. I don't endorse the hyperbolic comparisons to OK Computer, that's just dumb. But it is certainly more densely textured than their debut, with a little more experimentation with sounds. The lyrics are almost too singular -- it's a bloodyminded breakup fest, and not a happy one. But after five listens, I still come back for more. I think it'll be a keeper.

Guardian | Music Omh

this is probably as good a time as any to bump a thread and explain why i think that you're a useless fucking git. did you even search for these albums on here? while you were out getting dumped we were talking about the editors, at least, for months. maybe if you treated the people and fellow music fans here as a resource instead of as a prospective audience you wouldn't be so completely a self-important street teamer.

God you can be a dick sometimes. Truly.

Newsflash, most people here are actually interested in what he has to say. And so fucking big whip what that he made mention of a cd that some people talked about a long while ago, people repeat shit on here about albums all the time.

Wow. A tad harsh, but not off base.

Yes, yes I did. I searched for No CV and The Back Room, and came up with nothing. I figured Editors would yield too much garbage, being a common word. So I missed the one thread with six one-liner posts that died a quick death back in July 5. Excuse me to fucking pieces.

The album just came out on Monday. I know I've been away for a few months, but since when does the topic close on new albums when someone, somewhere mentioned it once before? And since when is talking about music street teaming? It's not like I was pretending to be to know about this album months ago. I was clearly out of the loop for a while, not spending time on the net. But what the hell does that have to do with anything??? If I can't share my enthusiasm for a new discovery without having to worry about petty snipers every time, what's the point of going to this board?

Get a grip.

Is there really any good time for this? If you think his posts are self-important street teaming, why even bother clicking on his threads? Surely you must have better things to do.

I like both of these bands a lot. All I Ever Wanted is a great tune. I haven't heard My Computer's new one though I'd love to find it over here in the U.S. when it becomes available.

Alas, so many bands, so little time and $$$.

edit, 20 minutes later: By complete chance I stumbled across a link for this new My Computer album this morning. If anyone else wants to hear this UK only release, PM me.

Fastnbulbous has introduced me to a handful of great albums that I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. So he has accidentally provided "old" information a few times - who cares? Save the hate for the people who devote entire threads to Simpsons and Family Guy quotes.

Do we have the under-card for the Katie, a princess v. Swiateck super-match?

Could it be Fastnbulbous v. Dalen, with Joey Crack as the latter's second, and ??? as the former's.

Let's get this on, already.

I could never match Dalen's uncanny ability to get his mitts on albums before I've actually heard of them, let alone before they officially sent out promo batches. I suspect on the side he's a drug overlord, running a music export/import business on the side in Florida, alongside his 'straight' gigs as a dj, designer, devoted husband. I don't care where , nor want to know how he gets the goods, as long as he keeps feeding us. Thanks, D.

I still stand by my statement that the Editors album has two worthwile songs - 'Munich' and 'Blood' with the rest filler. Mix tape fodder really. Actually alot of the post punk revival sorta bands have albums like this (The Organ is another example). You could assemble a pretty good mix though.

Never-the-less, thank you FnB for trying to bring about further music related stuff.

I've drifted as of late - lurked occasionally, but have not found much to comment on. I hope we can all begin to offer more music that has of late been moving us, or I fear I may disappear completely.

And I hope we can all learn a little more patience and civility around these here parts - not everyone has yet asended into godhood. Enlightenment tends to come at the end of ones lifetime - when it is of little use to anybody actually - what a gyp.

Snide hatred does not a community build, nor make much of a welcome mat - although the barbed wire does help scrape mud of my shoes. IF I may offer a little insight... In the immortal words of Rodney King... "Ouch! quit hitting me with that Billy Club Mother Fucker!"

Yeap, you are on the money on that one…

I think the only way to get the old timers to come back, because there are an awful lot of us who have left, is to separate the general talk from the music. Music threads will never be a big here as “What is your favorite pizza topping” and so they fall off the front page much more quickly. If music threads could stay on the front page for more than half a day than I think they would get more replies. But this has been brought up before and gets a cold shoulder because people don’t like to change.

I have moved on and Obner isn’t the best place on the net any longer. Sad really because I would of argued why this place was the best music board on the web just a little while ago.

I think if you asked haq nicely he would send you the name of his cardigan knitter and the place he buy his organic soy for his lattes.
