sigur rós's new album has been named "takk..." (icelandic for thanks). this is what the band has written on all their autographs for years. the 11-track 65-minute album will be released worldwide september 12th on EMI records, and september 13th on geffen records. here is a quote by jónsi from a recent NME interview:

"it's a bit more happy, with a bit more hope in it. the lyrics are small adventures, maybe like children's stories or something. i think the songs are quite simple and naïve and they have a central character to them. there's one called glósóli, and he wakes up and everything is dark outside and he can't see any light. he thinks that the sun is gone and somebody has taken it from the sky, so he makes a journey to look for the sun. he finds it in the end."

the tracklist is as follows (with english translations for just you mailing listees):

1. takk... (thanks...)
2. glósóli (glowsun)
3. hoppípolla (hopping into puddles)
4. me<eth> bló<eth>nasir (i've got a nosebleed)
5. sé lest (i see a traiae)
6. sæglópur (lost at sea)
7. mílanó (milan)
8. gong (gong)
9. andvari (zephyr)
10. svo hljótt (so quietly)
11. heysátan (the haystack)

here is a quote from jónsi about takk, courtesy of nme: "it's a bit more happy, with a bit more hope in it. the lyrics are small adventures, maybe like children's stories or something. i think the songs are quite simple and naïve and they have a central character to them. there's one called glósóli, and he wakes up and everything is dark outside and he can't see any light. he thinks that the sun is gone and somebody has taken it from the sky, so he makes a journey to look for the sun. he finds it in the end."

on august 15th, two songs from "takk..." will be made available for mp3 download only: glósóli worldwidae, and sæglópur in america only. the band plans on launching a new official website, www.sigur-ros.is, alongside this mp3 release. a video to glósóli is currently being shot in iceland and as soon as we have further information about it we will let you know.

also, their videos are always completely awesome.

What the?!

Hey, Sigur Ros is coming to Honolulu this August 9th. I'm excited. Maybe they'll play some songs from this new album. Do any of the band members speak English?

I've always wanted to see them live.

I went to Cleveland to see Godspeed! You Black Emperor (which was awesome, by the way), and found out that Sigur Ros had played in the same venue a week earlier.

I had no idea they were there.

I was so pissed.

This song didn't do anything for me until the last minute and a half. That part kind of makes me wish I had bought tickets to see them live though...I can only imagine what that would sound like in concert. When someone hears the full album, post your thoughts.

aside from "Gong-trk8", this album is amazing start to finish. very childlike [as stated in reveiws], and much more interesting and similar to AB. love the whimsical ending of "Hufupukar" when the horns come in.

the 2 tracks i posted are my favs so far.

ok, so this tune (glósóli) is working for me now, and holy shit...this is awesome. d, if you're saying the other tune is better than this...i really need to get my hands on this album.

i love this band.

i may have to consider flying to portland or seattle in september to see them live again.
