and bought this with some birthday cash:

sony vaio pocket. 40GB. color screen. can download my digital photos directly to the device when it is docked in it's cradle.

i had no idea sony even had this until a friend at work did some research and ended up getting one. so far i am totally happy with it...loading up my collection (1200+ songs so far), and adding album covers too.

all this for the low low price of $239! i believe that's less than a 20GB iPUD?

Cool. I'm not on-board yet, but my time is gonna come. Especially when I sell my truck and hit school, because... I mean come on. Man's gotta have music sometime during the day.

coolio. i'm "stuck" with my rio karma 'til march 2007. (i have a 3yr service agreement w/best buy, so it'd be silly to buy a new one til then.) i'm hoping there'll be a good 200GB+ player by then.

aesthetically, as nice as the iPod. Can you record directly on to it?

it does have to be docked to record to it. fortunately, the cradle isn't too big at all:

does it take photos too?

Is it a PDA?

I want one that is a phone and a radio too. I'm sick of carrying around 5 different devices.

So are you secretly hoping that it breaks in January or Feb 2007 so you will get a replacement player for free? I know that is how we feel about a lot of our toys that have ext warranties on them - just make sure you have your MP3 library backed up :)

can't you just break it yourself?...I knew a guy in junior high that got a new pair of shoes every month or so by tearing the sole off of them

my ipod got stolen so i'm in the market for something new, perhaps something different and less of a theft-attractant.

None of this:

(holds left hand out in front of him, palm towards himself; points right index finger into palm, and "dials")

That's my imitation of an iPod user.

they are a bunch of "sensor" buttons. it's called G-Sense, and you just roll your thumb around on them and it corresponds to the cursor on the lcd screen, and then press down when and where you want to select. it's a little wierd at first, but after ten minutes it is really easy and pretty damn cool too.
