Funny. About a year ago I talked to one of Belle's former teammates at LSU. The guy had great stories about him. Lot's of them involved him throwing at fans in the right field during warmups.

Really? I mean isn't he just a Z-Grade Keith hernandez all hopped up on power juice?

Keith was hopped up on other stuff.

OOOHHHH YEAH!! Dat Cizzy!...Have you read "The Bad Guys Won?" @ the '86 Mets, I have been meaning to for some time, but not gotten around to it.

No, but I really need to because those were my boys. I always liked Keith, but he's another guy who talked out of his ass. When the Cardinals traded him to the Mets Herzog suggested it had to do with his suspicion that Hernandez was doing drugs. Hernandez threatened a libel suit and, naturally, it came out later that the white rat's suspicions were true.

Still, awesome defense, clutch hitter and a great team leader. If he had hit for more power he'd be a HOF candidate.

Steve

If I had a vote, he'd be in. Especially considering today's numbers boom, I think he looks much better in retrospect, considering the fact that he could actually play a position and such.

So, the new report is that the drug was Winstrol, the same 'roid that Ben Johnson was stripped of his gold medal for testing postive for.

An opinion I heard this morning: If the Hall of Fame is analagous with a gold medal, do the voters now have responsibility to "strip" Palmeiro of it?

Discuss.

Also, i hear that he tested positive back in May, and the case went through arbitration but finally the penalty was handed down this week.

What a joke!

How can baseball allow him to try to get his 3000th hit when he failed a drug test?

I'm sure it would've been different if he had to sit out for 10 days and then try to get that hit.

I heard the same but I'm not going to register with the shitty Baltimore Sun so I can read the article.

Is it entirely unthinkable that somebody set him up, like ninja-style... sneaking into the house at night, carefully injecting him as he slept, maybe hired by someone he pissed off at the hearings?

Don't say I watch too much tv. I don't have cable.

his numbers were wretched at the beginning of the year and many thought he would drop out of the lineup. The he starting slugging the ball better, it seems more obvious now.

It was Canseco. He saw that little Cuban tush once, and he's been silently following Raffy around for years, injecting him in his sleep, knowing that one day he'd write a book about it. Later, Raffy would vehemently deny ever using steroids before Congress, and Canseco would sit nearby and giggle under his breath as his face ticked uncontrolably. Meanwhile, McGuire wept.

Report: Palmeiro took stanozolol

Posted: Wednesday August 3, 2005 12:02AM; Updated: Wednesday August 3, 2005 12:02AM ( si.com )

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro's positive steroid test was for stanozolol, a powerful anabolic steroid that is not available in dietary supplements, according to a newspaper report.

The New York Times, citing a person in baseball with direct knowledge of the sport's drug-testing program, reported on its Web site Tuesday that Palmeiro tested positive for the drug known by the brand name Winstrol, most notably linked to the Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson of Canada.

The person who said that Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol did not want to be identified because the testing policy prohibits anyone in baseball from disclosing information about test results without authorization, the Times said.

The Baltimore Orioles first baseman was suspended by Major League Baseball for 10 days on Monday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. The highest profiled player to be punished so far, Palmeiro testified before Congress in March that he "never used steroids."

The test was taken some weeks after Palmeiro testified before Congress in March, meaning he is probably not at risk for perjury, the Times reported, citing a committee staff member who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity because official statements are supposed to come from members of Congress.

Palmeiro didn't deny turning in a positive test, but was adamant it was an accident.

Johnson was stripped of his 100-meter gold medal in 1988 after testing positive for stanozolol.

Palmeiro was the seventh player to fall under baseball's new, tougher steroids policy; Seattle Mariners right-hander Ryan Franklin became the eighth when he was also suspended 10 days for a violation Tuesday. Baseball does not release what type of drug a player has tested positive for, and so far none of the eight have spoken openly about details of their violations.

Unfortuantely more chain resturants than necessary. I wish I could have seen the ads since I'm putting Houma on the map, but unfortunately I haven't been able access the site from work.
