God, this group would be so good without that vocalist. His "shaking voice" sound is fucking laughable. I can't listen to any of their tracks with a straight face. The instrumental sections are beautiful and right on key, and the singer hits all the right notes, but it's like he took the whole Eddie Vedder thing and made it 600 times worse.

There's an Obner search function. It's hard to see on the menu 'cuz the word search is written over it.

Do you like the sound? I really want to, because they're really different and creative compared to most of the music that's around now, but I just can't take it.

I'd trade the instrumentation for his voice any day. In fact, I think what hinders my enjoyment of "I Am A Bird Now" is that the instrumentation is too linear and characterless at times. His vocal collaborations are impeccable, too.

someone on here suggested i check out the last live lou reed album cuz anothy sang 'candy says'.....

it is absolutely amazing. minimal instruments. and i believe he came out and sang this as part of the encore too....again, simply amazing

i've had to go out and buy both albums, 3 singles, 2 lou reed albums that he appears on, and that golden apples of the sun compilation just because i am that in love with this man's voice

i like his voice, sometimes its really too much (too rich, not too annoying). it took me a while to really like devandra banhart's as well, but then i just kind of got it. the music is really beautiful on this and, like the songs of joanna newsome, you could've expected the vocalist to go one way, but it went quite another. but i much prefer antony over joanna, not that they're comparible except in that what-a-weirdo sense.

i guess i'm with Ish here... his voice hits hard, but there is definitely something about the album generally that makes 10 tracks too much. actually, it may just be the picture of antony.

Finally... the emperor has no clothes... even the empress has no clothes... and clothes make the, er, man

I have reading glowing reviews and praise on blogs for this for a while.... I got it, have listened to it a couple of times.

It's like Yoko. Or Nico. Or U.S. Maple. Or god knows what other self-indulgent drama royality that can't form musical sounds out of their sad little larynxes to save their souls...

I mean I like drag singers, I like gender-bending, I even like Xiu-Xiu... but the dude's voice pushes me over the edge. It's unlistenable. After reading this I'll go back and listen for the insturmental playing...

I think it's safe to assume in this case the emperor is one of those seven other sexes.

This may sound totally petty, but while I agree with MNSaA on his voice (it really did get annoying to me) it was actually the drums that annoyed me the most. That's one subject that I just can't abide by when it comes to bad drumming, and the drumming on this album sounded really fake (were they cheap electronic drums, anyone know?) and the drummer didn't really have much of a touch at all. It's petty, I know, but that's my thing - drums need to be good, and this is a reason why I just can't listen to the White Stripes, as much as I like Jack's playing and singing.

I've only heard the cut on Golden Apples and one other one from the album. In both cases, I had to resist the urge to pour hot hog vomit in my ears.

So, does that mean you didn't like what you heard?

It's totally appropriate that Katie mentions Joanna Newsom in comparison. I've thought that they would make an interesting duet, maybe not all that effective, but interesting at the very least. All that are disposed to hate it needn't even wonder, but I do.

He played "Candy Says" to close out his performance at the Music Gallery in Toronto when I saw it in June. It was fantastic, his whole set was, and I anticipate seeing him again with a full band this fall. In that particular performance, it was really captivating the way he would segue without a break from song to song, sewing together fluid clusters of 3 songs usually. A simple but welcome touch.

I dont ejaculate all over myself every time I hear it, but I dont hate it. It seems most people are one way or the other. To me, its still a little 'meh'.

But Ive only heard it 2.5 times. I probably need to give it 5 good listens.

Or in other words, I like it quite a bit.
