While flipping channels last night, I stumbled upon this on one of the Showtime offshoots:

It's a documentary about The Runaways, directed and produced by second bassist Vicki Blue. She has tons of old footage, and recent interviews with Cherie Currie, Lita Ford, Jackie Fox, Sandy West, and even their svengali, Kim Fowley. Joan Jett was conspicuous by her absence, but Currie said that even though she's straight, she still did the nasty with both Jett and West (both long-out-of-the-closet lesbians). Currie looks great, but she's obviously had a shitload of plastic surgery. West looks awful, which is understandable, given the fact that she's spent the 2+ decades since the band's breakup working construction. Lita Ford really comes off as a world-class (unspoken word that rhymes with "bunt"). And that Kim Fowley is one of the most self-absorbed asshats I've ever seen...with Fire Marshal Bill lips, to boot!!!

If you haven't yet seen this compelling train wreck, you MUST!

Oh wow, I wanna see that! As a young teen, The Runaways represented one of the OG grrrrrl riot bands for me. I loved them!

Recently, I was reminiscing about them to a relatively new friend. And, he related how he and his sister would sometimes visit Rodney Bingenheimer who often had The Runaways as his guests. He was in love with Lita Ford and as a young teenaged boy, he innocently gave her his address to write to him. Much to his grand surprise, a couple of months later, he received a personalized Christmas card from her. And to this day, no matter how much of a cunt (there, I said it for ya, Bob!) she acts like, he can't forget that one special Christmas.

Whoa, blast from the past. Man, these "chicks" are old. They must all be in their late 40's-50's by now, eh?


I uh, hope they're not considering a reunion tour...

Given the fact that Joan Jett not only refused to actively participate in the movie, but also refused to allow any of the original studio recordings to be used (she apparenly now owns all the rights), I'd say we'll probably have to wait for Live Aid 18.
