Hi there,
Since I helped someone with their iPod, hopefully people won't be too pissed if I ask this. I have 1GB left on my 60, and as I add songs, I delete some stuff I don't need (there's only so much Air Supply you really need) to stay at roughly 1GB. Here's where everything gets fucked up. I deleted over 100 songs last night, and I noticed that with each one I deleted, I had less and less memory. That doesn't make any fucking sense! Every button I clicked erased more memory from what I had left. So, after ejecting, I decided to look at the thing itself. All of the songs I erased were still listed, but wouldn't play (skipped right by them). It didn't save any of the changes I had made prior to ejecting (and I did that correctly, by the way), and NOW, when I plug it into the computer, it opens up with no songs whatsoever. The memory below is still listed, but it appears as if the iPod is completely empty. I go into My Computer, just to check things out, and when you look at the songs, everything I've added since July 1st is listed as a random series of letters, and not the title of the song (for instance, "Things We Said Today" by The Beatles is listed as "XYYOSL" or something crazy like that).

What the fuck?

Hopefully this doesn't get ignored because I wrote way too much, and thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Holy crap. See, these are the sort of posts which keep me from actually buying one. Well, that and the total lack of a budget.

Sorry man.

I've never had a problem with my Ipod, but I keep things VERY simple for it. Load up some albums for a workout every day, more for when I'm traveling or have a long wait somewhere. That's it. It's never been even close to capacity as I take stuff off as often as I put new stuff on.

Sorry about your problems, though. Wish I could help.

Steve

Mine has shit the bed as well. For no apparent reason...not recognized when plugged into my computer, won't play in the car. I'm gonna have Steve Jobs raped (it's more humiliating than murder) -- I hear Stalin employed this move to his full advantage.

Synchronize it with your computer. It sounds like you're doing everything from the front panel, and what Apple wants you to do is do everything from the software.

Agreed.

Also, sometimes you need to just wipe it clean and start over again. I do that about once a month, and just put whatever I want on there.

My dad just picked up a 60 gigger. He's got a first generation 20 that has always worked well. Anyone want to make an offer? It's got a proven track record.

it's suggested that you leave atleast 10-15% of your hard-drive space open on your ipod.

Same here. Haven't had even the slightest inkling of a problem in the 9 months I've had mine, and it sees a lot of use. I just consider it like maintenance - sort of like defragging your harddrive.

Hmmmm....I didn't want to wipe it clean, though I guess I'll have to do that. Is there any way to wipe it, but save the playlists and play counts (I'm addicted to the play count feature especially)? I imagine they're hidden in there somewhere, but does anybody know for sure?

Thanks.

P.S. What do you mean sychronize it with my computer? I plug it into the computer and wait for it to be recognized by iTunes, and the gigs used/remaining shows up, but the songs do not.

mlle's click-wheel ipod is crashin constantly, too. my advice--save some dough and get a 2G one like me. i've had none of the problems you all are having (knock on wood) and that's even after i hot-rodded the thing with a 30gb drive that i got off craigslist and installed myself.
