I know we've done this before, but not for a long time.
This topic ressurection was inspired by FT's posting of his appearance as an extra in the B-flick "Pirrahana" (sp?)

Here goes...

When I was 7 I took a day off from the 2nd grade to go downtown and interview for the role of "Danny" in The Shining.

No, Jack Nicholson was not there.
Yes, Stanley Kubrick was there.
Yes, I spoke to him.
He asked me if I was newvous and I answered (truthfully) "Yes."

Obviously, I didn't get the role.

If we're doing miniscule brushes with national media:

I'm pretty sure I'm still on TV (Cartoon Network) for about a quarter of a second at 7pm E on Friday nights.

I'm credited as "Assistant Designer" in 3 or 4 episodes of Sealab 2021.

I was on major network news (ABC or CBS I think) shortly after being born. They interviewed my mom. My parents have a deteriorated VHS copy of this.

I had a rinky dink modeling job with Academy back in 1998. It paid $100 an hour. Of course, it was only one hour and it occurred right before I went on to start my "real job."

Not necessarily.
Could be an odd talent.
Or any interesting fact that we might not know about you.
Family history, etc.

Other Examples:
I am directly related to Abe Sapperstein, founder of the Harlem Globetrotters (on my mother's side).

The only things that I could possibly contribute are my stints at Men's Health Magazine, where I worked as the Assistant Style Editor. My job was to assist in hiring the models you saw in (and on the cover of) the magazine. I pretty much met with male models, requested that they take their shirts off and take a polaroid of them. Let's just say, it will probably be my favorite job ever, and at the Frederic Fekkai Spa where I worked as a Front Desk Clerk. It was there where I met celebrities such as Sigourney Weaver, The Cast of Sex & The City, and even Martha Stewart. I even spoke to Heather Locklear on the phone once.

Oh well...

From 1995 through 2000, I worked with a Canadian neuropsychologist in Sudbury ON, whose work has been featured in several national publications in Canada (like Macleans) and worldwide television programs (BBC, ABC, CNN, Discovery etc). He was the inventor of what had been termed "The God Helmet" due to its proported ability to induce intense religious/alien abduction type experiences in normal volunteers by passing weak, magnetic fields through the brains. I was fortunate enough to run all those experiments and hence have briefly seen for several seconds by millions of people running lots of "technical" equipment.

Yes, I am a mad scientist.

Yeah, I just couldn't think of anything.

But in terms of talent or lack-of:

I'm 25 and can't whistle.

I've been at sea in a 20ft boat during a force 10 gale. I was genuinely convinced I was going to die.

I was on David Letterman once for about two seconds. Biff Henderson came to Ball State during homecoming back in 2001 and did a segment on it. I was the event coordinator for one of the events he showed up at for the segment.

I came in 2nd in the Indiana State Freethrow Shooting Competition when I was 13.

I was one of those people you hear on the radio when the station calls them up to give them a random prize.

I was 9, growing up in suburban Buffalo, and I answered the phone when Kiss 98.5 (a station likely featuring such quality artists as New Kids on the Block and Bel Biv Devoe in those days) called to ask what my favorite radio station was. I had heard them do it before and knew the right answer was "Kiss 98.5 is the #1 hit music station," so I said it right away and they told me I won $100 (I had heard them give away $1000 before, so I felt a little disappointed). But they weren't exactly thrilled when they found out I was 9 (I should have just lied), so I had to put my 15-year old step-brother on the phone. He, of course, was heavily into Quiet Riot and Motley Crue at the time and didn't give a shit about Kiss 98.5 and almost blew the whole thing. Luckily, I stayed by the phone and coached him through it. They gave us the $100, but they never aired anything from our conversation. My one chance at fame slipped away. sigh.......

But for the record, I only did it for the money.

On the celebrity bit:
I served Marv Albert (pre-cannibal) coffee once. He was a total prick.

I served breakfast to Greg Gumbel when he was in his underwear (boxers). Totally cool guy.

Served dinner to Andie McDowell right after a flesh battle with her husband. It was a bit weird presenting a merlot and shrimp farfalle to a flush-faced, perspiring, still-lounging-in-her-bed Andie McDowell.

If all of that is off-topic well as a kid I was convinced that my first dog (a puli) was the reincarnation of Marylin Monroe. Whenever Some Like It Hot was on TV I would always call for her to come and watch. I don't know if this is a fun fact about my dog or about the early stages of my insanity.

When I was a kid (13 or so) I lived in Ft, Riley, KS and at 10pm, they would do those 5 snippets of songs, and you had to call in with title and artist in order amd you'd win a prize...I listened to the crappy pop station a lot,a nd have a really good memory, so I could almost always get them. So, one day I decided to call in, and won. They had a 30 day freeze on winners, so the enxt night I called in and gave them my brother's name, and then my neighbor's etc... Eventually they knew my voice and wouldn't let me call in.

Funny thing is, they only gave away promo tapes. I remember getting whatever Cure album has "Friday I'm in Love" on it, but can't recall what other swag I got.

Growing up in Georgia, surprisingly, I never had a thick accent. I got asked all the time if I was from "up north."

I didn't go to a strip club until I was 33, and it was with my husband. I didn't see the big deal. I didn't go to a MALE strip club until this summer, but it was a gay club, so the dancers were clearly not into mooching singles off of me. I thought the gay strip club was way more risque and titillating (as far as what the dancers will do).

I rock climb, and am currently climbing around 5.10 rated routes. Have only climbed outside twice in my life.

- in chicago, in 1965, there was a tv show called kiddie-a-go-go which was like a pre-teen american bandstand. you had to be 12 and under to get on. it was on channel 26 everyday after school. my cousins and i were on several times that year and we danced our asses off.

- i won a watermelon eating contest at a picnic when i was 8 (hello there, chubster.)

- my mother and the unibomber are first cousins.

- with the exception of my brother and father, all of the males on my father's side are named phillip or anthony. i'm counting a dozen or so.

- i met kim deal and she was so high she scared me.

i lost my spleen (or, rather, had it removed) after rupturing it playing rugby at the age of 24. the er missed the original diagnosis and i ended up driving 2 1/2 the following day to the hospital where my dad practiced. he didn't take it out but wanted it to be done by one of his collegues. we didn't realize my spleen was ruptured until after my arrival. scary.

. . . i'm also related to u.s. grant, james madison, and the mayor of the plimouth plantation on my mom's side.

oh , just thought of another one.... my dad missed Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's home run record in 1974 because he was taking me to the bathroom (I was only 3). Luckily my dad is good-natured and he hasn't held it against me.

edit: just to clarify, we were at the game (we weren't just watching it randomly at home on tv)
