Welcome and thanks for the unintentional heads up on the new Calla album. I had no idea.

Hey Fuck you, fattie!!

Detritus -- I think that your concerns are valid, yet a bit over the top. I also think that the oil prices have more to do with econmic manipulation than with dwindling resources.

Oil is at an alltime high, yet oil companies are posting record profit, while admittedly opening new sources and finding easier extraction methods?
1+1 = 3.

And welcome, aside from The National and Venderslice you gots a pretty nice list.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, lot of nice people on this board. I've only posted on one other message board before, Hipinion, and it was filled with little dickheads. It doesn't bother me being attacked on a message board, but at least make it funny.

Good to see lots of love for The National' s new one. It's the definition of a grower. I can't believe I was disappointed with it the first couple listens. Now I think it's better than Sad Songs.

Sketch, that was a great post. I think the reason that concern for a possible oil crisis is rising, is the fact that crude oil is over $60 a barrel and expected to reach $70 by the end of the year. This coupled with the fact that India and especially China are quickly becoming economic powers is cause for a lot of concern. With these two countries drastically increasing their demand for oil in the next few years, can enough new oil fields be discovered to keep up with the rising demand? If not oil could soon reach $100 a barrel and a global recession would certainly soon follow.

Dalen, it figures the one band you won't let me talk shit on happens to be one I hate. But there is no doubt that my musical taste is very limited. I keep trying to expand it, but I just can't.

I welcome higher oil prices, it'll hasten innovation and get more fat asses on their bikes.

Nice. Good call on The National. Its probably my favorite album this year so far. If you have been lurking for a while, then you probably know how divisive the album is on this board. Some people love it, while others hate it because of his voice.

Some of us were true haters, and are finding this to be a grower.

Atta boy, Patrick.

Welcome Sifter...it's always nice to welcome new people to the board. Hope you'll stick around.

By the way, Dalen is really very nice. He can be a bit of a jackass at first, but you realize after a while, he's really one of the most sane people on here.

That's not saying much but oh well...;)

Welcome, welcome. Pace yourself. It makes more sense as you go along.

Yeah, and more smacked-ass rich kids out of divorcee-to-be's SUV and onto the damned school bus.

More bikes and school buses means more room for my V-8's.

Aces on the Go-Betweens call, check out the new Saints album.

Howdy, and welcome! Enjoy your stay.

There was a review in the SF Chronicle about a month ago about 2 books on peak oil- one was called Beyond Oil- The View From Hubbert's Peak, by Deffeges? (can't read my notes) and The Long Emergency- Surviving The Converging Catastrophes by Kunstler.

I went to B&N to buy one, but they were kind of expensive (they sure seemed interesting, tho). I'll wait for the paperbacks.
