I just bought this on Amazon and was wondering if it was a good choice as an intro to Marvin Gaye. We've been listening to the oldies station at work lately and I really liked what I heard from him.

I think it's a 2 CD set. This particular CD set was discontinued in the U.S., which is why I had to import it. However, if "The Anthology" was reissued recently, it was probably reissued as a box set in the states.

I just don't understand why anyone wouldn't already know and have all the marvin they deemed necessary, but ok. it really comes down to whether you prefer his hits, his deep soul stuff or his jazzier dance stuff. i have no idea what's on what you bought but if it's only two cds then i'd say that it's not a good survey.

I have it. This is a fine introduction to marvin gaye, and it encompasses a large part of his collection. When you consider relative strengths of different artist's catalogues, it is certainly hard to go wrong with marvin.

he's barely old enough to drink. If his parents didn't own any, then he's right on track for starting to fill in his classics.

Give the guy a break. Its hard to find time to look into classics when you're so busy trying to overthrow the capitalist system.

BEWARE of the live stuff. I bought a live album a few years ago (of a show in the early 80s?) and it's the suck. Way over the top hollerin' from Marv, bad sound qual, you name it. Definately not the smooth sex tunes I was looking for. Stick to the studio albums.

The London Palladium CD is pretty good if you do happen to want some live stuff.

Here, My Dear from the late 70's is a great selection as well.
