So my gf and I got rid of a good bit of CD's and traded them in for some DVD's.

Soprano's 2nd and 3rd seasons (Got the first 4 now. YEAU!)
Goodfellas - Special Edition
Casino - Special Edition
Gangs Of New York
Rounders
Godfather Trilogy
The Shining
Nightmare On Elm St.
Singles
Nat. Lampoons Vacation
Grease
Swingers
Man With The Golden Arm
Annie Hall
Fight Club
American Beauty
The Big Lebowski
Dog Day Afternoon
Some random Miles Davis cd for the gf.

and some more I can't think of right now.

I NEVER thought I'd get rid of music, mainly because I thought having a bunch looked inpressive, even if some of it was admittedly shitty. But now I just want more space in my apartment. And fuck it, all I'm doing is importing them into iTunes anyway, so it's not like I'm getting rid of them for good. Basically I kept things that I know I'll want the liner noted for.

Anway, I thought it was pretty tight.

That's a pretty sweet haul of DVD's to look impressive in your apartment.

How did YOU manage to come up with Man With the Golden Arm?

pretty good movie, book by Nelson Algren (you chicagoans should be up on this dude) and Frank as smack fiend...more famous now for the fact that he never shoots up on screen.

That was a gf choice of course. She's trying hard to broaden my movie horizens. And for the most part, she's doing well.

But she still can't keep me from putting Caddyshack on the "classics" shelf.

I believe you were right along with me covering "Beauty School Dropout" my friend.

But I did own Grease 2 up until recently. And even my gf thought that was garbage.

An awesome commentary by Scorsese and some cast members and a commentary by some cops and criminals. Pretty qual, and much better than the other fucking version of Goodfellas on DVD, which you had to flip over in teh middle.

I know he has read it b/c I read his copy.

I saw the movie first, but it didnt take away from me enjoying the book. Surprising how many verbatim lines made it from book to movie.

I also saw a movie that was sort of a dramatic interpretation of the Lufthansa heist. Crazy shit although it was like a made for A&E movie so it suffered a bit.

You picked some pretty good movies, but I think that CDs have infinitely more replay value than DVDs. Even shitty ones.

What he said. I think one thing that the book does a little better is illustrate that these guys are pretty much petty thiefs and street trash...Scorsese does glam it up a bit...which is why they are able to exist as two separate pieces.

one of teh things Scorsese says in his commentary is the difficulty of translating a bunch of vignettes/stories into a coherent narrative, and that's why he cut out some stuff/made composite characters.

And why Scorsese is a fucking genius. That is one of the things i really took from the commentary, and even took some ideas for the screenplay I am trying in vain to get onto the page.

Haha weird. I saw that movie over the weekend and a kid in it has an online conversation with someone about...pooping in each other's buttholes, back and forth, with the same poop...but anyway, he uses that symbol to make a picture of it over AIM. I just thought maybe you had seen it.

Wow, I have heard of "pissing in a bitch's ass" but never back and forth poopoo.

What kind of twisted shit are you watching??

It was actually just one of those indie-romantic-comedy type things. It was actually pretty good...but it ended without finishing any of the stories.
