so have your opinions of the 'biggest' indie albums changed now that theyve been with you awhile and the hype/anti-hype has died down?

for me
Image The Arcade Fire - Funeral For the first week or so this was great, but i find myself replaying it less and less. A good album for sure, but not great
Image Libertines S/t Gave this a spin today - now that the 'greatest band ever' NME hype has died away, and their not following Doherty to the toilet anymore, the album is pretty damn good
Image Interpol - Antics I wanted to like this when it came out, as I really liked TOTBL, but i think this is just a consistent, above-average record with no real high points but no real low points either
Image Les Savy Fav - Inches This has improved IMO from when i first listened to it and is pretty freaken great, i agree with however said 'The Sweat Descends' is one of the best songs of the year

Franz Ferdinand - still thinks it's a great album and will defend it, but it's moved from "clever alternative" to "commercial success" in my subconscious. I make no value judgement about that as I don't care much about that kind of thing's effect, but it means I'm used to hearing several songs on the radio and think of them in a more mainstream light now. Damned fun mainstream, though.

I still love Funeral. I played it too much at first. Now I play it less and love it even more.

I still like the Les Savy Fav and Arcade Fire a lot, but both have songs which annoy me and have caused me to play those albums less. "Crown of Love" was always my least favorite song on Funeral, and now I sometimes find it to be nearly unbearable.

I've only listened to the new Interpol once, and it bored me to tears. I burned it to a CD with "Specialist" stuck on at the end, and that song blows the entireity of Antics away.

The only time I've ever heard the Libertines was on MTV on that show "Discover and Download" which I caught totally at random. I was pretty surprised to see them on there, but I wasn't all that impressed. The performance seemed really stiff, but I can't say that I blame them especially considering their surroundings.

I agree about "Crown of Love" being weak...I usually skip over it. But, every once in a while, I like it again. And "Crown" doesn't quite hold up in concert, especially the coda, which should be a boost, but instead, flatlines...

Only one kinda weak song, though. Pretty good considering that many otherwise great albums have 3 or 4 stinkers.

p.s. I wish "No Cars Go" were on Funeral.

I also agree that Antics is boring.

nothing comes close to the greatness of "Obstacle 1"

I can't find anything I like better than Funeral this year. Everything else feels boring in comparison.

especially compared to "turn out...". however, i think it's better than over half the albums i've heard this year.

i'd like to revise my opinion of the junior boys.last exit from "what the crap is this that i'm listening to?" to "wow, this really gets better with every listen."
