nice

Ikea has some nice cabinets. They have this one white one that is flat against the wall that holds a ton, and it has a sliding door over it.
Then they have a bunch of tall ones that you could just keep buying more of...

Someone on here had a shelving unit of glass block and wood shelves that looked decent enough and was probably really cheap.

IKEA has these really cool wooden towers that you can put together. I bought four of them and love them. And they don't take up too much space.

I'm building a new bookcase-style system to store mine. I'll post pics when it is done

We sell these where I work. They hold a shitload of discs, and no particle board is used. That means it'll hold up thru all those moves you do. Plus, they're unfinished, so you stain or paint them to match your "decor."

Edit: Contrary to what it says on the page, those shelves are not adjustable.

How many CD's can each one hold?

I'm storing mine (and my stereo equipment) in an armoire from Restoration Hardware, but I've been thinking about switching to cd/sleeves only and getting rid of the jewel cases-- it takes too much room, and I'm almost maxed out on my storage now. I don't want to go back to the cd tower/shelf thing again. I like keeping this sort of thing out of sight and clean.

There are 12 slots on each tower, and each slot easily fits 13 CDs. The towers are very thin so you can put perhaps 4 or 5 of them right next to each other or simply spread them around the room. I like their flexibility.

Check it out...

Steve, I have the Billy bookshelf from Ikea, with the shelf inserts between shelves. Each insert allows for 128 cds, so you could likely put 700+ cds on one of these boogers. I like this better than the tall skinny one primarily because it's sturdier, but I also can put other things on the shelf or add the doors to the bottom and hide office supplies.

EDIT: Mine are brown, not white.

it's expensive when you add up all those shelf inserts.

I can't find the cabinet I saw with the sliding doors...

It's $150 if you fill the thing up with inserts, but I don't know why you'd want to stoop that low anyway.

At $40 a pop for the skinny shelf, if you only get 4 then you have spent the same.

They weren't that much when I bought them a few months ago. The store prices must be cheaper than online. I wouldn't have spent over $120 on these towers. I don't even think I spent more than $100 actually.

i used to have an oak entertainment center with pull-out shelves that held most of my cds. but since that was sold, we moved, and the advent of the mp3, my cds are now stored in the garage in plastic milk cartons, which are almost the perfect size.

[EDIT: they can be found at places like walmart for about $3+ a carton]

These looked like the perfect solution until I saw the price. I thought pine was the cheap wood? I'd need two . . . $468 worth of shelves. Next!

and may go pick it up this week.

I've been trying to sell a couple units just like that in MA. I've had no contacts from craiglist. I'll probably repost when all the college kids come back next month
