This is the first track from their new album [don't have a release date for it, sorry].

More info: After spending a month in Seattle recording the forthcoming Feels LP, Animal Collective seem to have emerged changed beasts. Rather than head down the barely beaten paths suggested on 2003's Here Comes the Indian or last year's Sung Tongs, the Brooklyn quartet plays music less tribal and erratic, more doe-eyed and autumnal. It's not that they sound like an altogether different band, just that the wild naivetŽ and boundless joy of their music seems a bit eroded, and the band chose to play a muted, even melancholy strand of campfire music.

after a few listens i'm starting to like this, but i did find on Sung Tongs they strayed from the excellent melodies too much in order to be ostentaciously 'arty'.

Nice. I'll post my thoughts after I listen to it. Always appreciated, D.

edit: I do think it's a really good track and I like it a lot. Sounds along the same lines as Sung Tongs, but with more fleshed out instrumentation.

Great track. Pretty sure I heard them play it live as a lot of it sounds familiar, especially the ending. This band can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks, D.

So true. Even their kind of indulgent strummy shit is endearing.

I believe the whole album comes out October 18th. The first single will be "Grass" and is out sometime in September, I think.

The whole album sounds decent, at least from the way the leak sounds. Hopefully the retail version will sound a little more clear --- there's a LOT of stuff going on with all the tracks and mp3 compression definitely hurts the sound.

I was hoping that this would be more along the lines of Spirit They've Vanished... or even Here Comes the Indian, but I'm still fucking dying to hear the album. I'll probably wait until it comes out instead of listening to the leak. I do want to hear this track, though, so thanks for the post.

Wow, this song is MUCH better than I expected. It sounds like they're almost making songs in a "traditional" sense now, which is somewhat disappointing considering that it's Animal Collective, but if they're all this good then I think it could be a step in the right direction. Not that they've taken a wrong step yet....

This album destroys Sung Tongs. My top 5 has about 23 albums in it already.

I listened to this track (thanks again, Dalen) and although I didn't find it as irritating as Sung Tongs...lord, it wasn't good.
