I just ordered a DVD burner. Are there any good (hopefully free) programs out there that are good for ripping DVDs (and getting around copyright protection)?

that is not a true statement. shrink doesn't have the latest patch for some sony discs. so then i use dvd decrypter (rip) to rip it to the HD then shrink to reduce it to a 4.7 disc.

To RIP - DVD SHRINK sometimes in conjuction with DVD Decrypter
To Burn - NERO
been doing it for 2+ years now. nice having a netflix account to boot.

Thanks for the good advice. DVD shrink sounds like its very useful.

Does the "shrink" aspect allow you to burn a longer movie (over 2 hours) onto a single 4.7 gb disc?

Also, is there any difference in the different DVD formats (+ vs. -)? I bought some DVD-R disks because they were slightly cheaper than DVD+R.

I downloaded some software that loaded all kinds of porn and spyware to my machine that took me an hour to get rid of.
It works fine now, but I don't know if I would give it out for ya'll to encounter.

I'm gonna try that DVD shrink stuff! Thanks!

yes. it allows you to compress movies to fit exactly on a 4.7 disc. it also allows you to remove things as well (extras, different audios, etc). has special compression algorithms to better the picture.

i personally like memorex dvd-r discs. they will play in everyone's player. older players may not play dvd+r.
