I heard a song on WOXY that intrigued me, but I haven't picked it up yet. I plan on it, though.

Have you heard them before? They're pretty great live, total drunks.
That Much Further West is a better album though.

oldbuleee sent me That Much Further West...I enjoy it. And the fact that they are total drunks makes them QUAL in my book.

I like what I hear, listening to some iTunes clips right now. Sounds like it would segue nicely into some DBTs.

That Much Further West has grown so much for me since it release. Everytime I listen I like it more.

I loved That Much Further West but have heard next to nothing about this album. I'd like to check it out though.

I just bought That Much Further West and the new one, plus that Ryan Adams Cold Roses joint on vinyl. Bitches.

Please, tell me more of this Slobberbone. I've heard the name, and you've dropped them here and in the South San Gabriel thread. Consider my interest piqued.

They were awesome (broke up last year). Seriously, "Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today" is one of my all-time favorites (also good are Slippage and Barrel Chested) and they sound very similar to Lucero, it's a great RIYL.

They've broken up recently, but they sounded a LOT like Lucero. Tough, Crazy Horse-sorta alt.country/shit kickin' rock and roll, with great lyrics and a whole lotta bad attitude. They're led by singer/songwriter Brent Best (who's the guy on that South San Gabriel project), who just seemed to get better and better with each recording.

They had four full-lengths: Crow Pot Pie, Barrelchested, Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today, and Slippage. I'd rank Everything You Thought Was Right as their best, but all of them are worth a few bucks if you're interested at all in that Lucero/ Drive-by Truckers/ I Can Lick Any SOB In The House kinda genre.

I thought he was a part of that! What does South San Gabriel sound like? Does best do much of the singing / song writing?

'Placemat Blues' shows a band flexing their influences and we're all the better because of it. The song 'Gimme Back My Dog' cracks me up as well.
I think I need to dig this one out.

Some New Town, Meltdown and Lumberlung have always been favorites of mine. The whole album is fantastic.

Will Johnson from Centro-Matic is the beast behind South San Gabriel, as far as I can tell.

Do you AIM?

I'm a big fan of both Lucero and Slobberbone.

I agree that "Everythin you thought..." is the best Slobberbone. What was really cool about that band is they were such road dogs. I've moved around a bit in the past several years but no matter where I was living they'd always roll through town two or three times a year.

As for Lucero, I picked up this new one when it came out but haven't spent too much time listening to it.

I intially liked "That Much Further West" best but over the past several months I've been listening to "Tennessee" a lot more and like it equally as much if not more.

They're coming to Chicago in September so I'm going to try to catch them.

I have MSN IM but don't use it much these days. I found myself on it way too much at work. Like now, with Obner...
