I am typing this post from the Emergency Room of the Medical Center of Plano, which is the same hospital in which my youngest son was born three years ago this month. Unfortunately, this is a much less joyous occasion, as my wife is about to be admitted with two severely infected kidneys -- one of which is abcessed.

Needless to say, this means I will be unable to join the festivities at Stubb's in Austin tomorrow night, which saddens me beyond words. For months, I've been looking forward to finally meeting Cotton after all these years on the CMJ BB and Obner, and now that isn't going to happen.

Please keep good thoughts for Mrs. FT, as I don't know what I would do if anything ever happened to her. Everything we've been told so far is that she'll end up being OK, but I will admit to being pretty damn terrified right now. I'm hoping they'll get her admitted soon, so we can get her into a room. I'll keep everyone posted...

Not just full, but INSTANT. We've finally been admitted, but it's only one of those half-assed pseudo-rooms that they keep you in until an actual room is available. I think the rappin' granny from The Wedding Singer is on the other side of the curtain.

Damn, that really bites FT. Please post about her complete recovery as quickly as possible.

Shitty timing, too.

Holy crap, Bob! I sure hope Mrs FT has a speedy recovery. Are your boys okay? They must be frightened about the whole thing.

My thoughts are with you!

Thanks, all! Here's the latest...

She had gestational diabetes during her last pregnancy, and was supposed to continue monitoring her blood sugar. Well, in recent months she hasn't been, despite my constant hounding of her to do so. I'm sure you can see where this is going. When they did her blood work last night, her blood sugar was at 500. The normal level is 100. She damn near went Jerry Garcia on my ass.

Normally, I would revel in the nyah-nyah "I told you so" taunts, but this is some pretty serious shit. She's now officially a full-blown diabetic, and will likely have to adhere to the Layne Staley shoot-up schedule immediately. Her mom is flying up later today. Last night, the doctor said she'd probably be in the hospital for at least 2-3 days.

Apparently, the spike in blood sugar and onset of diabetes has severely weakened her immune system and resulted in the subsequent kidney problems.

And as if this weren't already enough chaos, my oldest starts 4th grade on Monday at a brand-new school! D'OH!!!

Wow, I'm really sorry Bob. I'm glad to hear she made it to a hospital and was diagnosed before anything too awful happened.

Thanks for all the support, guys. It really means a lot. I'm back at home watching the kids right now. My wife's trying to get some sleep, as they were poking and prodding her all throughout the night worse than an alien abduction. I'll probably head up there sometime after lunch. In the meantime, there remains no better diversion from reality than my beloved Obner.

I'm sooooo glad that she'll be out in a couple of days. What a scary ordeal! She can now claim to being a hype! My mom is one, shoots up 1-2 times a day depending on her blood sugar level. And she's gonna have to watch her diet closely. But you already know that.

You're a great husband and daddy, Bob, and doing a superb job of being there for them.

Ok, Plan: Cotton disguises himself as the mailman, slips by for like 2 minutes of quality meet-n-greet, then *poof* you close the door and nobody is any the wiser.

Would they be getting together to drink, or have sex?

And if the latter, why are you fantasizing about this Squirrrgle?

Neither sex nor a drink, just the long-anticipated meeting they discussed. Well, I suppose it'd be completely understandable if they each chugged a beer, you know, as a matter of course, but I wasn't suggesting as much. Just the face-to-face.

Yeah, they should chug beers.

Thanks for all of the continued well wishes, everyone! She's doing OK, but it looks like the absolute earliest she'll be released is Wednesday. I'll be staying home from work to watch the kids, though the big one will be at school most of the day, so the little one might sufficiently occupy himself often enough for me to squeeze in a little Ob time.

I'm an idiot.

I was in Austin this weekend visiting my bro and actually had time to kill that afternoon (Sat the 13th). I remember reading this thread a while back but completely forgot this was happening this weekend. I was supposed to come up on a different weekend, but plans changed at the last minute due to a band rescheduling their live show.
