I know there's another Boards of Canada thread, but I don't care. This one is specifically about Music Has the Right to Children, and nothing else.

I really want to hate this album, but I can't. I've listened to it several times before and convinced myself that it's trash, but after listening to it today I've decided that there is something about it that's irresistable.

The thing I hate about it though, is when a bunch of indie hipster types who normally could not give a single shit about IDM or similar genres go CRAZY over this album, saying that it's fucking brilliant and how it "takes them back to their childhood" and a whole bunch of other bullshit that really pisses me off. It's not the fault of the album, and it doesn't change my enjoyment of the record, but I can't stand that.

I think one Amazon reviewer said it best:

"[It's for] The kind that continuously shift their opinions in accordance with what got thumbs up from the latest edition of an entertainment magazine."

I never said they HATED it, but how many teenaged kids do you see at an Autechre show?

true. Most shows here are 21 and over, so that'd explain the phenomenon.

When I was die-hard into Electronica I would've agreed with you. "Oh they only like it because it's hip to"

But now I take the attitude that it's such a great album it trancends it's genre & die hard music fans are gonna find it no matter thier history & that's nothing but positive. A lot of Hip Hop & Electronica albums got cool indie cred without being good enough to trancend the genre. That pisses me off when in my book it's the wrong albums/artists. But when it's the right one you gotta love it.

Are kids name dropping "Music Has tHe Right....', probably. Does that lessen the albums greatness or justify hating the group because of it? No. If anything for me I'd rather punish the kids & that's why I support reinstituting the draft. Generation Y needs to die! Got an Emo haircut, enlist your butt!

I work that as an opening track on a lot of mix cds I give to friends. They all dig it immensely.

edit: strike that, I use track 13 (olson).

What makes the album is the smaller, breief 1-2 minute songs like 'Kaini Industries', 'ROYGBIV' and 'Olson'

I love "ROYGBIV"

My favorite tracks from this have always been "Aquarius" and, I think, "Telephasic Workshop".

I'm gonna have to listen to those when I get home. I really need to unwind after my day at work today...

Every single person I've ever introduced to that album has loved it. It's just a great chill out record. It can be creepy if you let it be, but it's mostly just a great ambient record with hip-hopish beats.

Does the "I" in IDM stand for "indie"?

"Intelligent" (meant to contrast with "dumb dance music", I suppose).

Right, I don't understand them. You know about my listening habits and what artists I like and don't like.

And plus, there is so MUCH to understand when listening to an album like this! Maybe I could have you lecture me on the members of Boards of Canada's true intentions with this album, since you obviously know what's going on in their heads and everything.

Keep responding, it's entertaining to see you make a true asshole out of yourself.

And plus, you'll always have this against you....

Dalen Wrote:
I honestly don't think there's going to be another album released this year that's as beautiful as Takk. I've listened to it straight through 4 times tonight, and I'm just blown away, and at moments, virtually in tears [damn i feel like such a pussy admitting that].

Pussy.

i could very well lecture you on BOC, but honestly it's not worth 2 minutes of my time. if you were someone else on this board, maybe.

and you WISH you could actually experience music like i do. from your various replies in this thread and many others, you obviously don't. sucks for you.

also, don't fucking PM me and beg me to "not further these posts on the board". talk about being a pussy.
