I just thought i might share this with you guys who might not otherwise have a chance to hear a good Australian act like this. New Buffalo is a chick named Sally from Melbourne who makes music that's kind of a hybrid of Broadcast and the less-rootsy Cat Power. Basically like Broadcast with a more organic sound, but describing it as simply that is doing the music a disservice. She's been taken under the wing of Beth Orton so to speak, who duets on some tracks on her album, the Last Beautiful Day. Here's something from some website called Cokemachineglow about her:

Quote:
"The lead single “Recovery”---which, for what it’s worth, received Australian indie radio “single of the week” honours (Beautiful Day itself being “album of the week” all over the down-under map)---is a grin-inducing electro-clap shuffle, at once pure indie-pop pleasure and a bizarrely slanted, drunkenly hovering sonic apparition. Think of a female vocalist airily inhabiting the space between A.C. Newman’s catchy songwriting and Daedalus’ twisted lounge sampling and, along with exhausting your imagination thanks to my doomed-to-be-difficult comparison, you’ll hopefully be somewhat approximating its sound."

it's going to be released on Aug. 23rd for you Americobners, but it was released here last year so i present the following:

this is some really good shit so you should check it.

New Buffalo - Recovery

Along with American Analog Set, they were just signed to the Arts & Crafts record label as well. I heard 'Recovery' on a sampler cd from then and it's probably enough to make me pick up the album.

On the whole, it's definitely a great record.
