Us northerners don't see much of a selection in the way of Southern-type brews. But this weekend, at a great little grocery store near my mom's, I found some of this:

This morning, I am a happy man!

Community has long been a Louisiana staple. It's pretty much the coffee of choice for most locals, and lots of people ship it to friends and relatives.

I've never seen it in bean form.

it's all about flavor homie. my wife ruined out "ground" days by buying a coffee maker with a grinder inside it, so that you put the beans in, it grinds, coffee is brewed right there.

we can never go back.

yeah, if i had one of those i'd probably do that, too.

As it is, I brew a damn fine cup of coffee with Maxwell House Columbian Supreme or whatever they sell in the big can. Sometimes it quantity over quality.

It is nice to have some good shit around for the weekends though.

We couldn't quite afford that model, so we got the one down from it and a grinder. That sound has the same effect on me now that the can opener did for my cat.

i want one of those coffee makers.

a couple of weeks ago one of the fellows at the research center where i work came back from kenya and brought kenyan coffee, and everyone was all like "ooooh, KENYAN coffee, let's try it!" even though the US imports tons of kenyan coffee.

if you want a good rich cup of joe, i'd suggest a vacuum pot.

i have an esantos mini and it makes a great cup of coffee.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 1?v=glance

also, we have a local roaster who makes roasts damn fine coffee, so i'll buy a few pounds a week and grind to order in the morning.

those bodoms are the joint but eventually the seal around the bottom where the heating element is starts to leak slightly. infuriating.

These machines are amazing. Until I get one of those or find a quicker way to use a frenchpress, I'll be drinking my Maxwell House in the morning like Mr. Bloor.

Yeah we got dat coffee maker witht he grinder too. I don't drink coffee anymore but the gf does every morning and she LOVES having it.

But if that machine was any closer to the bedroom I would throw it the fuck out the window when it woke me up in the morning.

I actually stopped drinking it after I lived with you. Made me a bit jittery. I guess I just drank too much of it. It was either that or the 5 pounds of sugar that went into each cup.

At this point, I figure, why start again?
