my ipod is trying to boot up, and just keeps displaying the apple, then clicking, then blinking and trying again. i can't even turn it off. i knew this day would come, but i never even had a chance to say "QUICK STICKING SPACES BETWEEN CONSECUTIVE TRACKS YOU ACRYLIC PIECE OF SHIT YOU'RE RUINING THE AIRBAG-TO-PARANOID ANDROID TRANSITION."

I use Rockbox. Gapless playback rules.

And when I have my playlist shuffled it crossfades between tracks.

Oddly enough I just had the conversation today about how I've never heard of or met a person with an ipod that hasn't had problems with it.

This was in defense of my having something other then an ipod. Which I refuse to curse myself and say anything further on the subject.

Yup. I've said it here before. I've never had a problem, but, I don't ask it to do much other than entertain me as I workout or make the time go quicker when I travel.

Yeah, I'm guessing I've put my ipod through tougher travails than most - carrying it all over new york with me in my pocket, running with it, dropping it sometimes... the high number of ipod failures, i'm guessing, is directly correlated to the higher ipod ownership.

This made me smile. Last time I went back to NY my Dad was all over me - "you can't go walking around the city with your ipod. They're ripping people off for those things"....etc.

38 years old and I'm still the little baby that didn't know enough not to sit in my own shit.

Seriously, what is everyone else doing with their Ipods that is making them die? I treat it like what it is: a computer, meaning handle with care. I've dropped mine a total of one time in the 8+ months I've had it, and it worked perfectly fine after that. If you don't have your Ipod in an Iskin-type of thing, I think you're asking for trouble - I credit that with saving the Ipod from a much harsher landing (not to mention scratches.) That thing's like a little shock absorber. Well worth the $30.

the rio karma does something like this. there's a little "reset" hole i stick a paper clip in when this happens -- turns it off & is ok when turned back on. (i keep a paper clip on my key chain.)
