Few weeks back, I went back and forth whether I should head down to the Bowery Ballroom to catch Black MOuntain opening up for the Hold Steady.

I ultimately decided against it, and to rather go hang with my friends and see their band....Turns out, the singer of BM had immigration problems and the band missed that show, as well as their first date on the Coldplay tour!

*wins*

Now via Pitchfork, the band is making a treak round the USA, and I shall get to see them twice!

9/27 - Maxwells in Hoboken
9/28 - Mercury Lounge, NYC

*wins again*

Who's coming??

08-27 Los Angeles, CA - Hanging Jury

Where?

Edit: Nevermind, found this -- "The Hanging Jury, with its cardboard address plate stuck to its iron doors, well, it just screams ghetto. But walk inside and you’ll find massive murals by several local artists on every wall, comfy couches, a good size bathroom – and in the back – a nice size space for bands to play and crowds to watch. Jury is host to some of the most enthusiastic bands Los Angeles has to offer. Stand in the back alleyway on the night of a set and you’ll still hear a good show. But really, once inside, the hallways invite you to stay. Jury also serves as a rental space for shooting videos, art display and parties. Oh yeah, and please donate! See www.hangingjury.com. 1023 S Santa Fe Ave."

DumpJack gets a show!!! It'll be the first time someone besides Gordon Lightfoot or Stompin' Tom Connors has rolled through "town" since The Guess Who's Artificial Paradise tour back in '73.

This is indeed exciting news, thanks for the tip. It coincides with my exciting return to 'live music.'. I missed the '73 tour in the womb.

Xiu Xiu will be there... August 31st, MakesNoSenseAtAll and I will be attending that show. You live in DC?

I'm sure we'll have a hard time finding the place next week.

I have no idea of what's in DC besides museums and major political buildings. What else is there? We can't get tickets online so I believe the plan is to head down early and buy tickets and find things to do during the day. Are there any weird record stores or anything, or just big stores like Sam Goody and FYE and shit? That would be disappointing. I think i'm going to try and force him to go to the Hirshhorn and National Gallery. I fucking love the Rauschenberg piece in the National Gallery. I have to see it again.

My favourite DC sites:

National Air & Space Museum
National Spy Museum
Freer

...and if you're willing to backtrack a bit, Baltimore Aquarium.

...but those aren't exactly art museums.

Couldn't hurt to hit Smithsonian, Hirschhorn, or National Gallery, although I'm not into modern art, much.

Of course, you could always check out a movie, if you just want to kill some time.

There's several Tower record stores in the area, those are my usual haunts. Also: Borders.

Used: CD Cellar, don't know if DC CD is still around, but that used to be a good one. Record and Tape Traders (check out locations before you come down, most will be back in the Baltimore direction).

Meh, I'm at a loss, will think about it, and PM you more if I think of any. I do most of what little shopping I do these days online, and it's hard for anything to compare to Digital Ferret...where are you coming from? Feel free to take this to PM or email.

Just Richmond. Goddamnit it's 6 AM and I can't fucking sleep. That's another story, I guess.
We're just coming down for the day, or I would like to after 12 when I get my paycheck but i'm not sure if he'll be happy about that.. but it'll just give us more time to sleep before leaving, which is definitely a good thing. I think we need to figure out where to go to get tickets for the Xiu Xiu show first, and then we'll figure out what's in our area. I'm just looking for shit to do around the Warehouse Next Door, I suppose, if we're going by our original plan which was to go to DC with hours to spare, buy the tickets, and wander around DC until the show begins.
CD Cellar sounds like a fun place to shop. I don't really want to go to Tower or Borders, and i'm pretty sure if it came down to it we'd definitely not go.
Yeah but the used stores you mentioned sound like interesting places to shop. I'm sure he's read this thread, but i'll mention these as things to do if they're around the area once we purchase our tickets. Thanks a whole lot for your help!
